Some details on the trip
 :
Cuba has a unique program in education with a unified national curriculum that extends from daycare through post secondary education.  It has developed and refined the components of the curriculum over the years since the start of the Cuban Revolution to meet changing and evolving needs, capacity and understandings.

The goal of this summer's trip is to study the evolution of the Cuban education system and gain insights on the thinking and planning of those responsible for its design and implementation.  While schools are closed for the summer, the group will be able to tour some of the major facilities and installations in Havana, as well as in the nearby province of Pinar del Rio which is both an agriculture center and a center for the development of environmental planning and education.  The group will also visit centers for summer and community programs for children.   There will be meetings and presentations with specialists in education, both professionals and in community organizations and settings.  In addition, the group will be visit museums related to the history of the Cuban Revolution and of Cuba's famed literacy programs, and to learn as much as possible about the organization, history, society and culture of Cuba.

Cost:   $1799 in double; $2200 in single, including airfare from Miami or Cancun, accommodations, a number of meals, English speaking guide, transportation, and professional program.

Please circulate the program as widely as possible and let us know if you would like to be added to our lists for professional research trips at specific dates in the future.
