GARFIELD PARK CONSERVATORY On April 14th participants visited The Garfield Park Conservatory. The Garfield Park Conservatory is one of the largest and most stunning conservatories in the nation. The group took in the view with a scavenger hunt, while exploring the diverse flower and plant categories. The girls participated in a live coco bean demonstration lead by an educator at the garden. The participants sampled real coco beans as they satisfied their sweet tooth. |

URBAN WORM GIRL.... facilitated a worm composting lab on April 21st. Participants planted their own bean sprouts using worm compost and garden top soil. The girls were able to examine the growth process using the different soils. ("I am going to transfer my bean sprouts to my home garden" Mariam Sholajh). |
INGREDION INCORPORATED... hosted Girls4Science on April 28th with a behind the scenes tour of their Bedford Park, IL facility. The Company is a leading global ingredients solutions provider specializing in nature-based sweeteners, starches and nutrition ingredients. With customers in more than 40 countries, Ingredion serves approximately 60 diverse sectors in food, beverage, brewing, pharmaceuticals and other industries. The girls met some of the scientists who work for the company. The participants had an intimate discussion about the impact of Ingredion's products on all of our lives. |
312AQUAPONICS... shared how they use green technology to foster an urban inside garden on May 5, 2012. The former Bridgeport meat packaging facility, was recently converted to grow food to help feed Chicagoans. The students learned how a water filtration system for fish could fertilize plant life. The girls helped plant strawberries and carrots that will be sold to local at local farmer's markets. |

SPRING GARDEN PARTY
Girls4Science, hosted a Garden fundraiser on June 23rd in Evanston, IL. Guests received hand painted flower pots with dailies inside of each pot. Supporters of the event enjoyed a wonderful afternoon, greeted with the stories of G4S success and service to the community. Proceeds from the private event will be used for future Saturday Science Academy sessions. A special thanks to Amy Wilson , Kirsten Anderson, G4S Board members, Cedar Concepts Corporation, ITW, Baxter (Women in Science), Ingredion Incorporated, Nature's Perspective Landscaping, and Taylor Made Invites for all of their support. |
