Greetings!

Hello fellow practitioners!  Hopefully your month has been fulfilled with experiencing, learning, and subsequent growth!

We are having a great time sharing throughout the world. With our travels and constant growth, positive revisions are being made to bring to you some great practical applications.  This month in Clinical Applications we will share a very subtle, but powerful addition to a familiar hip mobilization.  In addition, we have attached an editorial from the Journal of Body Work and Movement Therapies.

We hope to see many of you in person soon.  Please check the Gray Institute web site for various dates around the globe.  We just found out that the UK FSTT HIP seminar is SOLD OUT, thanks to Tony Bull and all his efforts!  If you have any questions or just want to share ideas for an upcoming newsletter topic, please email Lenny at lparracino@gmail.com. Enjoy!

Clinical Application
hip complex

As we have learned, an important aspect of force production... that is, EFFICIENT force production is the ability to elastically recoil.  The problem arises when one loses this very important "spring".  In addition, it is common for people to experience abnormal tissue translation (like joints, soft tissues exhibit relative motion) during movement in the region of the anterior hip-medial-thigh.  This abnormal friction can result in abnormal nerve pressure and subsequent irritation.  Please watch the video for a subtle, but very powerful adjustment to a common hip mobilization. Pay particular attention to how Brandi is positioned, as her position allows a multi-dimensional tension application much greater than a table-based technique will allow.

Questions/Research/Information

Attached below is an editorial by Thomas W. Findley, MD, PhD that summarizes much of the research growth that is taking place in Fascia Science.  Dr. Findley is a clinician and a researcher and gives his perspective on where we are today and what we may learn.

This change from the classical concept that the body is a mechanical object, to a self-regulating organism should not be a surprise as we dive deeper into the interconnection of fascia and its intimate connection to the Central Nervous System.  Current concepts in neurobiology primarily view the brain as a liquid system in which fluid dynamics of a multitude of liquid, and even gaseous neurotransmitters, have come to the forefront.  This current concept is much different than the classical concept that the nervous system is organized like an old-fashioned telephone switchboard from the industrial age, as such a system would be incapable of representing finer and more complex processes such as "life energy", intuitive thoughts, rapid movement refinements, or human empathy... notice the AFS application.

In our FSTT model of treatment / conditioning, with appreciation of the self-regulating orgainism, we clearly see that we must switch our perspective from that of

"master-mechanical-technician"

to

"creative-humble-facilitator".

There is so much we can learn by simply anchoring to known natural principles and reminding ourselves that we are facilitators of a very complex organism.  We must not to make the complex COMPLICATED, by thinking it's a "this-for-that" protocol.

Embrace your journey! You will always exude confidence if you follow natural principles.

Note on article below: Pay particular attention to the paragraph titled... What we have learned about fascia?....talk about change.
