Finally, A good objective Driving-Review of the new ZL-1 Camaro, this time from AutoWeek. To quote, "the new ZL-1 is the ultimate factory Camaro -now and probably ever." Obviously they love it and predict that the $55,000 car will be a huge success. The review is unusually complete with very little negative, which included, for example, that there was no assist bar for the right front seat passenger.
Their overall observation can be summed up best by another quote,"For one model year at least, the ZL-1 is the horsepower king of the Pony Cars". JW
2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: Drive review AutoWeek | January 17, 2012
The new ZL1 is the ultimate factory Camaro--now and probably ever. It's certainly the most powerful, with 54 percent more horsepower than the infamous COPO-option, big-block 1969 Camaro ZL-1. MORE... |
Certainly, one of the most troublesome weaknesses in GM's plan for recovery is their position in Europe to restore Opel/ Vauxhall. As you may know they have assigned one of their top level Executive's, Steve Girski to oversee this project. girsky has a good Union background having been heavily supported as a GM board member by UAW. his first task in Germany will be to deal with the strong German Union IG Metall.
The Opel/Vauxhall problem will have to be improved before GM can ever consider their road to recovery a success. In just a few years Opel penetration has been significantly compromised as their product image deteriorated. Unfortunately they do not have the Chapter 11 in Europe so even a re-organization structure will be difficult to implement. JW

Big news in the domestic Auto World is the first glimpse of the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette. Already dubbed the C7, this new spy shot reveals some significant new styling surrounding the previously promised all-aluminum frame and the introduction of more carbon fiber features. Further rumors tease the availability of a new twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 engine and a 7 speed manual transmission. JW
2014 Chevrolet Corvette spied with C7 body! AutoWeek | January 19, 2012
Corvette's future is crystallizing as the temperature drops. The C7 was captured by spy shooters in cold-weather testing in the Great White North, and the profile indicates a wedge-like silhouette, curvy, slightly flared fenders and a potentially longer wheelbase. Production of the next-generation 2014 Chevrolet Corvette will begin next year. These shots advance previous knowledge of the C7, which now appears to have been photographed in an actual body shell. Older pictures indicated the longer wheelbase but were C6-bodied. MORE... |
AutoWeek magazine editors rave enthusiastically about the 2012 Chrysler 300S, labeling it "The Cream of the Big American Sedan". While the second generation model changes have been subtle, the magazine editors still place it at the top of the heap of all mid-priced full-sized sedans. This is a great compliment to Chrysler, especially in the , wake of competitors Buicks, Ford, Nissan and Toyota. JW
2012 Chrysler 300 S: Review notes AutoWeek | January 19, 2012
EXECUTIVE EDITOR ROGER HART: I tried to find something I didn't like about this 2012 Chrysler 300 S, but I couldn't. The 300 S, it would appear, is the state of the art of Detroit sedans today. The car is comfortable, loaded with technology and packs nearly 400 hp under the hood. The navigation/radio screen is, if not the largest, one of the largest in the industry. The touch screen is easily navigable. I even liked the red leather seats and especially the Beats by Dr. Dre audio system. MORE...

Grim news from the LA Times and their website source, GasBuddy.com, on the price of gasoline for the year 2012. This would appear to be in conflict with the normal assumption that 2012 is an election year that the Administration in office would work aggressively to hold down prices.
GasBuddy.com goes on to predict that fuel prices may approach $5 especially in the major population centers across the country. JW
$4 gasoline coming this spring, and may near $5 by summer, analysts say Los Angeles Times | January 14, 2012
Get ready to pay $4 a gallon or more for gasoline this spring, with possible records close to $5 over the Memorial Day weekend, analysts said. MORE... |
