IOOS Certification
In response to the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observing System Act of 2009, the Interagency Ocean Observation Committee (IOOC) has released, for public comment, draft certification criteria for non-federal regional asset (of which PacIOOS is one) and data provider inclusion in IOOS. These criteria, covering aspects of regional governance, system management, modeling, data management, outreach, training, and financial oversight will be finalized early in 2012. At that point, PacIOOS will apply for certification as a non-federal partner to IOOS and will conform to the criteria listed here. Please feel free to provide comments to us on the draft criteria or directly to the federal government here. The comment period is open through January 6th, 2012.

Depth Plots in Model Overlays
Plots of variables through depth have been added to our Hawaiian regional circulation model
overlays within the PacIOOS data visualization system. By clicking a point on the map and choosing 'profile' you can examine the plotted variable (temperature, salinity, current velocity) from the surface the seafloor. From the same window you can download and subset data for that, and all locations within the model.

Seafloor Infrastructure in PacIOOS Data System
PacIOOS has recently added layers detailing the location of subsea cables, sewer outfalls, explosive dumping zones, and other seafloor and coastal infrastructure to the PacIOOS data visualization system. These data, presently available for Hawaii, are being identified and will be included in the insular Pacific where available in the coming months.

New PacIOOS Wave Buoys
In the coming weeks PacIOOS will be deploying two Datawell Mark II Waverider Buoys in the coastal waters off of Hilo and Kahului, Hawaii. These buoys join our existing network of six real-time wave buoys in Hawaii, Guam, and the Marshall Islands and provide streaming data on wave height, direction, period, and water temperature to the PacIOOS website. Newly received funding has also enabled PacIOOS to purchase two additional buoys to be deployed in the coming year in Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
