National Ocean Council Listening Sessions
The National Ocean Council (NOC) has announced a series of listening sessions to be held around the country including one right here in Washington concerning the new National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes. This policy was established by President Obama through an executive order in July 2010 and is currently being implemented through the National Ocean Council. The upcoming listening sessions will provide a unique opportunity to learn more about the National Ocean Policy and provide input on strategic action plans being developed for each of the nine priority objectives. The session in the Pacific Islands region is scheduled for Thursday, June 16th from 1-4pm at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Remote video participation from the neighbor Hawaiian Islands and Insular Pacific Islands is available through PEACESAT.

Maui Water Quality Monitoring
PacIOOS is planning the upcoming deployment of two real-time water quality monitoring systems on the island of Maui. Through a partnership with the University of Hawaii Maui College--Marine Option Program, PacIOOS will deploy two YSI 6600V2 systems to measure water temperature, salinity, pressure, turbidity, chlorophyll-a, pH, and dissolved oxygen and report values to the web in real-time. The deployment locations have not been finalized--if you have a location recommendation please let us know!

Hawaii Maritime Information System
PacIOOS operates a coastal and marine data system that provides a wealth of archived and real-time information for commercial and recreational mariners. The PacIOOS Data Mapper provides users in Hawaii with a Google Maps-based interface from which they can visualize information and data concerning aids-to-navigation, day use moorings, obstructions, nautical charts, real-time ship traffic, and real-time surface currents on the south shore of Oahu.
