Chinese New Year &
African-American History Month
at Grimmway Academy
by Mr. Wofford & Ms. Hayes
It's February, which is also known as Black History Month. Here at Grimmway Academy we wanted to acknowledgethe achievements of a few African Americans for the role that played in American history. Students were treated to a slide show that was created to enlighten them on aspects of American culture that is sometimes neglected. Our students were able to revisit a time when many Americans were discriminated against due to the color of their skin. Students were reminded that no matter whom you are or how many obstacles seem to be in your way, each of us can still make a difference. From making paper stoplights to honor Garrett Morgan to eating peanut butter products in remembrance of the "Peanut Wizard", himself GeorgeWashington Carver, students left with a better understanding of why in 1976 President Gerald R. Ford decided to officially declare February as BlackHistory Month.

In honor of Chinese New Year students at Grimmway Academy got a real feel for the Chinese holiday. Second grade students preformed a small Chinese New Year skit while other student'swatched and learned about the holiday. During this exciting day students learned about Chinese traditions, culture, and beliefs. Each student was able to make their very own Chinese lantern to take home and share. While enjoying the holiday students ate fortune cookies and read their fortunes. You couldn't help but feel the excitement oncampus as the students were smiling holding the lanterns that they had made.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars! Grimmway Academy's Golden Ticket
Article written by:E.Roque
Every week, many Grimmway students work diligently at winning the jackpot: A Twinkling Star. At Grimmway Academy, the focus is student academic & behavior excellence. The coveted prize for exemplary behavior, common courtesy, basic good will toward one another and random "Caught Being A Star," garner the prestigious title of "Twinkling Star."
Every Friday at approximately 1:00, students wait patiently and listen for the Twinkling Stars to be called hoping that their name is among the 8-12 names called! It is a restless moment for those who have received a blue star accolade. On Fridays, tickets are dropped in a bin. After all tickets are collected, one by one, names are pulled and called!
