Chairman's Message
Chet Walden, CBI, M&AMI, BCI, FIBBA
Fellow M&A Source Members,
My staff and I have spent the last several weeks evaluating our year and asking ourselves the following questions:
- Did we reach our goals?
- What did we learn?
- Are we ready for the last quarter push?
- What can we expect for 2013?
To a certain degree, we should all be in a state of constant review with our firms, staff members, and associations. Consider a quick review of the following:
- Did I contribute to the success of my firm?
- Was I responsible in some way for making my firm or my association better?
- Did I go the extra mile by volunteering my expertise?
- Is there something else I can do to make things better?

Executive Director's Report
Karl Kirsch, CAE

At Meeting Expectations, we are hard at work getting the M&A Source and IBBA ready for a huge transition to a new database and website, as well as preparing for the renewal period to begin soon. We are committed to the success of these two associations, and trust that once these changes are in place, operations will run smoother than it has ever run in the past. As a company, we have recently received two honors that prove we are more than equipped for the job.
For the second consecutive year, Meeting Expectations was named one of Atlanta's "Best Places to Work" in the Atlanta Business Chronicle's annual survey, landing at number 18 in the small business category (10 to 100 employees in Metro Atlanta). The results are based on an annual employee satisfaction survey conducted by Quantum Workplace. Meeting Expectations credits its fun and supportive culture that inspires employees to go above and beyond for customers and each other, in addition to the company's unique mix of benefits, frequent social events, and a generous paid time off policy.

Membership Chair's Report
Joe Lindsey, CBI, BCB, LREA, M&AMI
Dancing in the Rain
An anonymous author once said: "Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass. It's about learning how to dance in the rain." Doc Holliday gave similar advice to Wyatt Earp in the 1993 movie Tombstone: "There is no normal life, Wyatt, it's just life. Get on with it."
The ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus once said, "Men are disturbed not by the things that happen, but by their opinion of the things that happen." His philosophy was that even though certain events are beyond our control, we should accept those events without the influence of our emotions or personal feelings. Our reactions to those events provide us with opportunities for examination; for self-improvement. With practice and discipline, the goal is to be able to control our actions. The theme of this article is that we are to make the best of our situations everyday regardless of our individual situations. If your practice has struggled in recent years, perhaps you can find encouragement in the successes of M&A Source members who learned to dance in the rain and found private equity groups to invest in their deals. Listen to what a member has to say about the benefit of the M&A Source Conference:
"I started solely as a Main Street broker and then three years ago made the decision to focus solely on lower middle market deals. The financial benefits of this decision have been excellent, thanks to the education and exposure offered at the M&A Source Conference!
