Dyslexia

Faculty In-service

The E. D. White faculty attended an informational session titled "Dyslexia: What Is It, Anyway?" on Tuesday, March 1 in the school's student union.  The guest speaker was Jason Talbot, SSP, NCSP, the Assessment and Research Coordinator for the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders at Nicholls State University.  Although the faculty had previously attended sessions about learning differences, they always enjoy gaining more insight into the causes of these problems and the methods used to aid our students.  Mr. Talbot used examples that enabled the faculty to empathize more with the students that they encounter.  His presentation included the following topics:  current definition of dyslexia, common signs, symptoms, social-emotional consequences, related disorders, and possible accommodations.  The Academic Enhancement Program at E. D. White, under the direction of Mrs. Sylvia Zeringue, effectively works with the faculty in providing the needed accommodations to the students enrolled in the program at our school.

Team Send-offSend-off

The varsity boys basketball team departed for Madison High School in Tallulah, Louisiana, on Tuesday, March 1 to play in the regional round of the LHSAA Class 3A state playoffs.  The boys departed at 11:00 A.M. for the 5-hour journey and received a spirited send-off from the cheerleaders and the faculty.  The Cardinals successfully defeated Madison High in another exciting overtime win of 66-65.  The Cardinals will now advance to the quarterfinal round, and they will play Abbeville on Friday, March 4.  Scores for this game should be posted on the Edward Douglas White Catholic High School page on Facebook and on the school's Edline site (http://www.edline.net/pages/E_D_White_Catholic_High_School ).

Exam WeekExam Week

From March 1 - 4, the students at E. D. White took 3rd quarter exams.  Students busily studied throughout the school, making final preparations for these important tests.  The end of exam week signifies the beginning of our Mardi Gras Holiday.  School will be closed from March 7 - March 11 as we celebrate Mardi Gras and begin the Lenten Season.

Thank you for staying connected to E. D. White.  We value our alumni and hope to see you on campus in the near future.  Please call the advancement office at 985-449-1859 if we can be of assistance to you in any way.
