Faculty In-service
The E. D. White faculty attended an informational session titled "Dyslexia: What Is It, Anyway?" on Tuesday, March 1 in the school's student union. The guest speaker was Jason Talbot, SSP, NCSP, the Assessment and Research Coordinator for the Louisiana Center for Dyslexia and Related Learning Disorders at Nicholls State University. Although the faculty had previously attended sessions about learning differences, they always enjoy gaining more insight into the causes of these problems and the methods used to aid our students. Mr. Talbot used examples that enabled the faculty to empathize more with the students that they encounter. His presentation included the following topics: current definition of dyslexia, common signs, symptoms, social-emotional consequences, related disorders, and possible accommodations. The Academic Enhancement Program at E. D. White, under the direction of Mrs. Sylvia Zeringue, effectively works with the faculty in providing the needed accommodations to the students enrolled in the program at our school. |
Exam Week
From March 1 - 4, the students at E. D. White took 3rd quarter exams. Students busily studied throughout the school, making final preparations for these important tests. The end of exam week signifies the beginning of our Mardi Gras Holiday. School will be closed from March 7 - March 11 as we celebrate Mardi Gras and begin the Lenten Season. |
