State Delegate
Anthony Naquin, a senior at E. D. White Catholic High School, was selected to represent the State of Louisiana at the 2011 National Youth Science Camp, which will be held from June 30 - July 24 in West Virginia. Two delegates from each state are selected based on exceptional academic achievement, leadership in school and community activities, and a genuine interest in the sciences. Delegates attend the National Youth Science Camp after their high school graduation at no expense; the camp is funded through contributions to the National Youth Science Foundation and by the State of West Virginia.
The National Youth Science Camp is a residential science education program for young scientists, and it is one of the nation's premier programs in secondary science education. The goal of the camp is to broaden, to inspire, and to encourage a sense of thoughtful scientific leadership among future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and health professionals. It offers hands-on small group learning experiences, a provocative lecture series, and an outdoor adventure program that expose the delegates to current work across the spectrum of scientific disciplines. Visiting scientists are invited to the camp, based on their reputation as leaders in their fields and on their ability to share up-to-date research with the delegates. |

Carnegie Hall Experience
Anthony Naquin performed with the 2011 American High School Honors Band at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY, on February 19. This honor distinguishes him as one of the finest high school euphonium players in North America. Anthony earned the honor of sitting first chair and playing multiple solos in Carnegie Hall. "My experience playing in Carnegie Hall will be a memory I will cherish forever," said Anthony. "To be able to say that you played on the same stage as the greatest musicians in history is truly an honor." Anthony rehearsed and performed under master conductors, such as Jeffrey Grogan, Dr. Eph Fhly, and Charles Peltz, during the 5-day trip. |
