I have been a Central Illinois resident for 10 years and only recently started shopping at Common Ground! Even more recently I started managing the produce department. When I first moved here, I did my shopping at the larger grocery chains, thinking that bigger is better. Like many consumers, I mistook knowing the "name" and layout of the store with the sense of familiarity. I used to be one of those folks that thought I would get a better deal at the bigger places but I've learned that as with all things in life, you do get what you pay for. Just because you might pay a lower price for something at one of the larger stores, does not mean you are getting a deal! Common Ground specializes in personalized SERVICES, not stocking our shelves with massive amounts of products.
Think about the amount of time you spend at those larger stores...have you ever gone in and lost track of time, not realizing you have been wandering around for two hours? Now add in the additional cost of buying all of the impulse items placed EVERYWHERE...still think you are getting a better deal? I beg to differ, and here is why:
Benefits of shopping at Common Ground:
- When you call during business hours, you get a real, live person to talk to and answer your questions!
- We routinely take calls from customers wanting to know if a specific item is in stock, we are happy to walk to the shelf and find out for you!
- We honor requests to set aside items for customers! If you call and let us know what you want, we will pull it from the shelf for you!
- We care about the products we sell and your satisfaction! If you buy a product and it's not quite right, let us know! We will do what we can to make it right.
- You can pay for items over the phone with a credit card!
- We do special orders! If there is a product you love, we will do our best to find it and order it for you! ( I personally have done this a few times and it's SO exciting to not have to run around town looking for it!)
- Shopping at Common Ground means supporting LOCAL business...that means that your money stays in McLean County and doesn't go to some corporate headquarters on the other side of the country!
- We put consumer education over making a buck. We will never encourage you to buy a product just because it's a trendy item. We will, however, encourage you to do some research and see if it's right for you! Sometimes, we can even help you look things up!
We care about our customers, they are our friends, neighbors, community members, not just the bottom line of the sales slip. We are happy to provide you with these types of services and appreciate your support!

The best days to buy produce on sale are Wednesday-Friday The best days for produce variety are Saturday-Monday Fresh bread from Katic is delivered on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings!
