BioDistrict New Orleans: Economic Development Leadership for the New Economy
The unprecedented investment in the physical infrastructure of the District does not guarantee everyone will share in the economic benefit, unless we invest in people too!
Make no mistake, the construction of the new VA-UMC hospitals are important employment centers for the region. In time the Cancer Research and BioInnovation Centers will also make contributions to the employment numbers. Louisiana is already competitive in the bioscience industry. The bioscience industry already employs 13.5% of Louisiana workers! Having that base makes our effort to build a successful hub even more important. It tells us that with a sustained commitment from local, regional, state, political, business and philanthropic organizations the common goal of creating a premier bio hub can be a reality.
The job now is to get everyone committed to help shoulder the load. We need "active" support of the businesses community directly and through their representative organizations i.e., New Orleans Business Council, GNO, Inc., New Orleans Business Alliance and the Downtown Development District.

The holistic approach undertaken by the BioDistrict, connects the construction of the new facilities with local schools, job training programs, seed and venture capital. The current approach has proved to be the successful model. Collaborative Workshops lead to continuity and synergies allowing us to take full advantage of our unique research strengths.
Simultaneously, we are creating an environment that encourages people to innovate and be entrepreneurial in order to increase growth and retain new companies. Theodent, NuMe Health, NanoFax, EMER.Ge and Bioceptive are but a few of the start-up companies that we need to nurture to make sure they develop into thriving small businesses within the District.
Also, no recruitment effort will be successful unless we can answer the fundamental question,"where will my kids go to school?" The District's ongoing activities to develop a new facility for the Math & Science High School and K-9 feeder schools will answer that question. Moreover, it will enable the BioDistrict to emerge as a premier hub on the global landscape and the bioscience industry to flourish in the Southeast Super-Region and throughout Louisiana.
None of this happens without a sustained commitment and financial support. Take the time to write Commissioner Paul Rainwater and LED Secretary Stephen Moret a note stating your support for funding the BioDistrict. Click Here to send a quick email
