BioDistrict Meeting with Cedric Richmond

BioDistrict representatives met with State Congressman Cedric Richmond and members of his staff to outline the BioDistrict's ongoing workforce initiatives and to explore the potential for future collaborations with the Congressman's office.

The Congressman expressed a great interest in collaborating with the BioDistrict to support coordination of employment and training opportunities created by University Medical Center and VA Hospital developments. Congressman Richmond also cited his support for the long term reauthorization of the Small Business Innovation Research grant (SBIR) for which the BioDistrict has been a vocal proponent.

AMRI Presentation to Local Stakeholders

As part of the BioDistrict’s Meet the Industry Series, Mr. Matthew Reabold of Albany Molecular Research Inc. (AMRI) visited New Orleans on May 11th and presented to a group of local stakeholders from academia and industry.

Mr. Reabold’s presentation highlighted the strengths of AMRI and sought to display potential synergies between AMRI and the research and development in our region. Review the AMRI Presentation

BioDistrict AIA Workshop

On May 11th, representatives from the BioDistrict, the Downtown Development District, and the City's department of Place Based Planning led a four hour workshop at the American Institute of Architects 2011 Convention.

The workshop focused on how the planned UMC and VA medical centers will create a synergy vital to serving the New Orleans region, how the downtown location contributes to the revitalization of the city, and how the location and design of the medical centers integrate sustainable design to connect a regional public health vision with regional environmental health.
