IT'S BAAAACK...The Second Annual New Orleans Baby Fest Cutest Baby Contest!!! We are now accepting photo entries through July 31st.
Entering the Cutest Baby Contest is simple! Babies 0-24 months on October 15, 2011 who live within a 100 mile radius of New Orleans are eligible. Click here for all the details, plus information on how to submit your baby's picture.
One Grand Prize winner will receive a one-hour standard family portrait session valued at $300 from The Brothers Taix Photography! The Top 20 Finalists will receive free tickets to New Orleans Baby Fest on Saturday, October 15th.
Voting will start August 3rd, so stay tuned.

CONSIGNMENT: Declutter, Earn Money & Make Deals

Do you ever feel like the walls are closing in because you have so much STUFF for your kids - clothes, toys, bouncy seats, strollers and the list could go on?
One of the easiest ways to get that stuff out of your house and earn some extra cash (because they will need bigger sizes and different toys as they grow) is consigment!
New Orleans Baby Fest is excited to be the Gold Sponsor of Rhea Lana's upcoming Fall/Back-to-School sale August 3rd - 6th.
Rhea Lana's is an upscale children's & maternity consignment event. Anyone can be a consignor!
- Consignors prepare, tag, price and enter their items into an easy to use online system.
- Consignors make 70% on sold items & up to 80% with referrals.
- The VIP Consignor Service is an option for busy moms who have nice items but not enough time to consign. Simply drop off your items and Rhea Lana's will hang, tag, and price them for you! You'll still receive 40% of the selling price (instead of 70%). The deadline for VIP consignors is Tuesday, July 26. If you're interested, email Melissa to schedule a drop-off.
Regular Consigning Deadline is Sunday, July 31, 11:59 p.m.

So, how exactly can you be Sun Smart?
1. Always Use Suncreen
- Dr. Dimitri recommends Neutrogena sunscreen SPF 70 with Helioplex.
- Sunscreen should be applied every morning before going in the sun and should be reapplied every hour, while in the sun.
- Use sunscreen in forgotten spots such as behind the knees, the ears and the scalp.
2. Stay in the shade during the hottest time of the day - 10:00am - 4:00pm
- The American Academy of Dermatology says that if your shadow is shorter than you are, stay inside or in the shade!
3. Wear a Hat and Sunglasses
- This protects your face and eyes from the sun's harmful rays.
4. Even if it is cloudy outside, the sun can still cause damage!

Ochsner Medical Center - North Shore in Slidell, will host a celebration for moms-to-be on Saturday, July 16th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The celebration is free and includes: door prizes, baby-related vendor booths, refreshments, tours of the birthing and pediatric units and the opportunity to meet with hospital staff. Registration teams will be on hand throughout the event to pre-register moms-to-be for their upcoming delivery and allow them the opportunity to meet their birthday team.

- Summertime = Swim time = Swim plugs
- Summer is here and that means lots of swimming to stay cool. If you or your child need swim plugs, New Orleans Speech and Hearing Center makes custom swim plugs! For custom swim plugs, make an appointment for ear impressions by calling 504-897-2606.
- Custom swim plugs take approximately 10 to 14 days to arrive and cost $80 for a pair. Instant swim plugs, which are only $10, can be picked up at the Center, no appointment needed. They come in fun colors too: orange, red, yellow, and blue!
- Custom and instant swim plugs float just in case they fall out or your child pulls them out in the water!!! The Center is open Monday - Thursday from 8:30 - 6:00 and until 3:00 on Fridays.
