I continue to be amazed by the local businesses that cater to expectant parents and young families. They offer so many services that I never knew were available locally or never even knew existed...like HypnoBirthing.
Did you know that Self-Hypnosis is a birthing option and it's available locally!?! You and your birthing companion can take classes to prepare for a HypnoBirth. Find out more below.
Plus, with water being a great relief to this HOT New Orleans weather, Marshall Love of Love Swimming drops in to give us Water S-A-F-E-T-Y Tips.
And finally, we're only four months away from the 2nd Annual New Orleans Baby Fest at the Pontchartrain Center on October 15th! Happy Summer!

HYPNOBIRTHING - Eliminating the Fear and Tension That Causes Pain in Birthing
|
|
By: Bonnie Miller
Director of Clinical Hypnotherapy
At first glance, the mention of hypnosis in the same breath as childbirth might conjure up images of powerless zombies and mind control; that only goes to prove that starting today you need to push yourself away from those late night sci-fi movie marathons.
Perhaps the most powerful tool you can use to control pain, manage distractions and maintain calm is your mind. The Self-Hypnosis tools and techniques taught in HypnoBirthing (HB) classes help to eliminate the fear and tension that create pain in the birthing experience. These techniques are safe, natural, effective and readily available.
Western medicine tends to reinforce negative attitudes and beliefs toward labor and childbirth that will often undermine an expectant mom's ability to exercise control over their birth experience. HB students are taught how they can create their own beautiful birth story not duplicate someone else's drama. Moms are taught how to call upon their bodies own natural epidural and thus eliminate the need for excessive medication and intervention.
When this deeper internal communication is practiced through pregnancy, it invites a more alert, calm and contented baby into the world. Click here for the whole story from Bonnie Miller about HypnoBirthing. |

Now is the time to talk to your kids about water safety. Drowning is THE leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14.
Make sure to educate your swimmer on water safety rules to keep them safe and happy not only in the summer but all year long. The FSPA (Florida Swimming Pool Association) has created an easy-to-remember acronym for pool safety rules:
S is for more than just SUPERVISION - children must be watched closely
A is for ALERT - Pay attention, Play smart
F is for FREE - Be Substance-FREE
E is for EMERGENCY Procedures - Get training and education
T is for TEACHING - Never too old or too young
Y is for YOU
Click here to find out more from Marshall Love on what you can do around water and what you can teach your children to keep everyone safe! |
