The students in the UCF Master's program in film production are casting for five feature films to be shot around Summer 2012. For more information about UCF Film, visit www.film.ucf.edu.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 17th from 9am-8pm in downtown Orlando. If you are unable to attend the audition, you are welcome to obtain sides from the director and submit a video audition.

Film: "THE DRIFTER"

Synopsis: The Drifter takes place far out in the winding roads of the American Countryside; Roads so lonely, that if the need ever arose, no one would here you scream. In this land there roams a man,Christopher Thatcher, who is lost on a lifelong search for purpose and compassion. See, the problem is, Chris's idea of 'finding purpose' is literally stepping into the shoes of others, murdering them in the process, and doing whatever is necessary to preserve this lifestyle. Where The Drifter will appear next is unknown, but one thing is for certain; if you stand in his way, your life belongs to him.

 

Character: Layla

Character Description: Layla is a down-home sweet heart with a glowing smile and a caring soul. She lives in a small town (born and raised) where she works as a waitress, aspiring to leave the town in her rear-view at the first chance she can get. Character Description: Reni is a quiet, lonely, and timid man who jumps at the first sign of action. Character Description: Lisa is a spoiled daddy's girl who has become cold after her parent's divorce at the age of 16. After 6 years of never seeing her family together, she is invited to be a maid of honor in her older sisters wedding where her family will be unpleasantly reunited.

Character Description: These trouble young boys represent what it is to be a childhood bully, and loosely depict the main character at a much younger age. They are confronted by the main character, while picking on a younger boy behind a seedy gas station.

Synopsis

Helick is the owner of a tailor shop with hopes of passing on the family trade to his son.  From a haunting past, he hides behind a cold and strict religious lifestyle in order to cope; which only pushes his children away.  Helick's son, Dovid, continuously frustrated with his fathers controlling ways, is manipulated by a drug dealer, and in an attempt to embrace his own individuality, impulsively runs away to aid in a drug smuggling operation.  With the discovery of his son's dangerous situation, Helick is forced to come face to face with his ultimate dilemma; his religion, or his family, trying to bring balance between the two.

Character Description: Helick is haunted by a past in the military and also the loss of his wife.  Giving up his special combat skills learned in the military, he dives head first into Judaism, truly using the religion as a wall to hide from his demons.  He is bearded, salt/pepper hair and wears glasses primarily while he works in his tailor shop.

 

Character: Dov (Dovid)

Age: 18

Character Description: Dovid, working in his fathers shop the majority of his life, also being raised Jewish, longs to have his own independent voice from his fathers controlling ways.  Each day, becoming more frustrated with eyes always looking over his shoulder.  Young, naive and impulsive in his decisions, rational thoughts do not come easily when feeling trapped in a cage.  Dov is a young adult with dark hair and a handsomeness that reflects his father.

 

Character: Aton

Character Description: Aton is a selfish drug dealer.  A true narcissist.  His intentions are hidden well beneath his smooth, wealthy and good looking presence.  He is able to manipulate Dovid, almost acting as a second father figure to lure him in, but eventually reveals his evil ways.

Character Description:  Anna is the late-wife of Helick.  She is warm, beautiful and has a calming effect on all who look at her.

Character Description:  Talia is a young, energetic, genuinely kind teenage girl, beautiful with a very 'girl next door' look to her.  She teaches hebrew classes for children in her local community and is also the distant Niece of Aton.

Synopsis - How far would you go to protect a loved one? Pembroke Circle follows Kathia, a 15-year old Venezuelan illegal immigrant, who runs away from home to save her sister from sex slavery and Grace, a 16-year old suburbanite, who finds a mysterious diary in her attic.  Their paths intertwine ina quiet, affluent cul-de-sac that is hiding a secret far more brutal and sadistic than any of them could imagine.

Character Description: Grace is an introverted and in-secure teenager who has had to assume the role of a parent of her younger brother after her mother passed away. She is estranged from her father and is in an unhealthy relationship with one of the neighborhood boys. She is nurturing, inquisitive and cynical.

THE LIES WE TELL

The Lies We Tell is a drama centered on a married woman in her mid-40s dealing with her suppressed identity and sexuality.  Her life changes when her 17-year-old daughter comes out to her with a girlfriend. In her journey she is forced to face her past, her identity, and her own mother in order to finally come to terms with who she is.  

 

JUDY
Late 40s.  Caucasian.  An attractive, fierce, intelligent woman.  Strict, perfectionist.   Has a reputation for being the toughest teacher at the local High School where she teaches AP Physics.   Married to Dave.  Mother of two kids; Ethan (10) and Jane (17).  Hiding her suppressed sexuality.  

JANE
Age: 17.  Caucasian.  An introverted, artsy semi-hipster.  Shy, naïve.  Jane has hardly ever questioned or tested the boundaries set by her conservative mother; that is, until she experiences love for the first time.. with another girl.

DAVE
Late 40s. Caucasian.  An easygoing, simple man.  Semi-athletic build.  A workaholic, white-collar accountant.  Hardworking with a sense of humor.  Loves Judy and his family unconditionally, along with fantasy football.

MADISON
Age: 17. An attractive, extroverted punk rocker type. Tough, adventurous.  Madison works as a mechanic for her dad's auto shop and falls in love with Jane.  She also happens to be Judy's best AP Physics student.

ADAM
Age: 17.  Caucasian.  A frumpy, heavyset prideful Jew.  Sloppy, vulgar.  Enjoys cooking, smoking cigars, and drinking wine. Jane's best friend.

SUSAN
Mid 40s.   Caucasian.  Long blonde hair, blue eyes.  A beautiful, sweet hippie who owns the town's local organic bakery.   Free spirited.  One young son, Brian, age 7.  Judy's closest friend and love interest.  

GLADYS
Late 60s.  Caucasian.  Curly dark grayish hair.  A well-dressed, well-to-do woman.  Disciplinary, stubborn.  Knows everything about the town.  Fundamentalist Christian.  Judy's mother, Jane's grandmother.

SID
Early 70s.  Caucasian.  A quiet craftsmen.  Retired ex-military navy pilot.  Married to Gladys for 50 years.

ETHAN
Age: 10.  Caucasian. A nerdy gamer who loves soccer. Competitive, innocent.  He's also fascinated with anything that moves: planes, trains, cars, helicopters, boats, etc.

TRAVIS
Age: 20.  Muscular, quiet, masculine.  Works as a mechanic with Madison.

BLACKWATER RD

Synopsis: A psychological horror film about a group of college students whose weekend research trip becomes a descent into terror.  Dekker, a rebellious writer, drags his roommate Tim on a trek to find various supposed folklore around the south for a book. With them are Dekker's photographer/girlfriend Kate and two research assistants Joan and Madeline. Upon the insistence of a local named Lynn, Dekker decides to explore an uncharted area of the backwoods known as Blackwater due to its strange history. Finding only an unlocked hunting lodge they decided to stay the night, but when one of group goes missing it becomes apparent that something is indeed present in the woods trying to take both their lives and free will.

Description:

UCF graduate feature film. Student crew. Heavily night shooting. Travel required. Labor intensive (running, swimming, screaming). Partial nudity may be required. NON-PAYING.

Character: 

Joan Belfield

African-American female, between the age of 21 to 26, with black hair and brown eyes. Must be able to run and swim. Partial nudity may be required.

Joan should not be out here. This is what she has told herself since agreeing to accompany her best friend and classmate Madeline on this assignment. A smart student but unable to afford school, Joan agreed to assist not necessarily because of grades but more for the promise of monetary reward if the grant is rewarded to Dekker. Joan is in desperate need of money less she be forced to quit school, a blow that would destroy her hard working parents. Quick-witted and sharp tongued; Joan masks her insecurities and fears with verbal barbs that at times have even put Dekker to shame. She is kept entirely busy watching out for Madeline and protecting her from the unwanted attention of Tim, whose past she has knowledge of.

Madeline Harvey

White female, between the age of 21 to 26, with black or brown hair (or at least willing to dye). Must be able to scream, drive, and run. 

A city girl through and through, Madeline is starting to regret coming on this trip. When she first heard about the extra credit that would come with being an intern she thought it was a great way to raise her sloping grade. It would also be a way to spend some time with her best friend Kate who she hadn't been spending a lot of time with since Madeline joined the sorority. In fact, she hadn't done much of anything since taking on the responsibility of treasurer. She needed a vacation, even if it was with Kate's annoying boyfriend Dekker and his roommate. Truth be told, Madeline had noticed Tim around campus (although she didn't know of his past with Kate). So she has dragged along her roommate Joan and has decided to, for once, go with the flow.   But, the further they get into their trip the more worried Madeline becomes. Now she just hopes to get out of the forest in one piece.

Lynn Marshall

White female, between the age of 21 to 26, with blonde or red hair (or at least willing to dye). Must be able to scream, swim, and run. Piercings and tattoos welcomed. Partial nudity may be asked.

Lynn has lived in Franklin her entire life and hates it. She hates the small town mentality, the quiet day to day drudge that so many have fallen into. She longs for excitement and noise, which would explain why she sneaks out every Friday to the closest city to dance the night away and consume as much alcohol as she can stand. Her greatest fear is that she will die in this town without ever being known, without ever being famous. Her only saviors are the random strangers and out-of-towners who stop by the general store she is forced to work in, hopeful that every new customer will perhaps take her away (at least for a little while to party).  Lynn doesn't know how much more of this mundane life she take, longing for chaos on any form.
