Greetings!

Welcome to the first e-newsletter from Australians Caring for Children. I hope you enjoy receiving the newsletter in email format.

As you may have noticed newsletters from ACC have not been arriving on a regular basis. That has been a result of a number of issues, including lack of volunteer hours for producing the newsletter and the prohibitve cost of printing and mailing out the paper version.

We have been investigating alternative ways of keeping you in touch with ACC news and information. This e-newsletter is the result.

As always we'd like to ask you to contribute items like family stories and photos, poems, jokes, book and film reviews, parenting information and ideas, anything that would be of interest to (adoptive) families. That is what other members want to read so please have a think about what your family may be able to send in.

Looking forward to a new era of communication with our ACC "family".

Best wishes,
Kathy Blanter

Welcome Home

In April 2008, Peter, Kylie and Julian FitzGerald celebrated Isabella Claudia officially joining their family.

Our appointment at Chiquitines was at 8.30am, Monday 21 April, 2008.  Our excitement was not dampened by our lack of sleep, the pouring raining or the fact that we had no hot water in our hotel room.  After a 45 minute meeting with the Director of the orphanage, Agatha, and Isabella's doctoFitzgerald kidsr, Andro, Isabella was presented to us by Maria.

She was absolutely beautiful and seemed as happy and relieved to see us, as we were to see her.  The meeting was a joyous occasion.  There were very few tears - except when we tried to express our gratitude for everything Agatha and her staff had done for Isabella and for us over the previous few months.

Perhaps because of the photos, videos and the number of medical reports that we had received since January, Isabella was very familiar to us.  And it seemed that she knew exactly who we were.  She looked at us as if to say "you finally got here!" and she was looking back at Agatha, Andro and Maria as if to say "we should be right from here, thanks".  The bonding was immediate, especially with her big brother Julian - her biggest smiles had been saved for JFitz kidsulian.

Thank you to Ricky and our AFC friends and to Jenny, Anjali, and Mary at DOCs for all your help and support.

Peter, Kylie, Julian and Isabella

ACC Christmas Picnic

From 11 am

Wentworth Common, Olympic Park

Join all the Australians Caring for Children families to celebrate the end of another year. Bring your family and friends along for a picnic in the park.

http://www.accau.org/Calendar.php

Wentworth Common has a playground with a flying fox for the big kids, a giant sandpit for the littlies and lots of grass for the soccer ball. There is a bike path for bikes and scooters.

There are bbq's available or bring a picnic lunch.

There is no cost but a Festive Donation in support of ACC's work would be very much appreciated ($20 per family as a guideline).

Look out for the balloons!
