A Note from Not Home Alone
Something New...May 23, 2010
Keekers in the crow's nestGreetings!

I've been looking for a more convenient way to stay in touch with you - so often, I find myself thinking, "Oh, I want to share this with..."  But then time goes by and another month has passed! And I just can't seem to get motiviated to write a frequent blog entry.

So I'm giving this a try, hoping that its ease of use will encourage me to just drop you a note now and then when I come across something that you might find useful, informative, or just plain fun.  Today begins a 60-day trial. If you have either a positive or a negative response, could you please let me know what you think?

And if you don't want to receive these emails, just click the "unsubscribe" link at the top of this page.

SKUNKED?
Sometimes curiosity just smells bad...Curiosity killed the cat?  Where did that come from? The curiosity of dogs seems to get them into much more trouble!

If your dog gets a little too close to a skunk, you might want to try this recipe for de-smelling. It is from a Nature program, developed and freely shared by a man who works with skunks:

Mix togeter in an OUTDOOR location:
1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup of baking soda
1 teaspoon detergent
Apply the mixture to your pet's coat, taking care to keep it away from the eyes, nose, and mouth.

After 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly with clear water.

DISCARD ANY LEFTOVER SOLUTION.
DO NOT STORE IT.
Books and Movies

PrissyI'm always reading, watching, listening to learn more about understanding, communicating with, and caring for the companion animals who share our lives.  My book of the moment is If a Dog's Prayers Were Answered...Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening our Relationships with Dogs by Suzanne Clothier.  A favorite quote from the book: "As our dogs remind us every day, now is always the best time to make things right."

As you may already know, I now offer Reiki for your companions - or for you.  For those of you who would like to learn more about Reiki for your pets, an excellent resource is Animal Reiki by Elizabeth Fulton and Kathleen Prasad.  I've also included links to Elizabeth's and Kathleen's sites above.

Finally (this time around), I recommend the HBO film Temple Grandin, the story of a woman with autism who has a great deal to teach all of us about the animals who share this Earth with us (and about ourselves).

Do you have a book, web site, movie, TV program you'd like to recommend?
One last note - though it's almost over, May is Pet Cancer Awareness Month.  Learn more about cancer in pets - facts, signs, and ways to make your pet's home a healthy place to live at

Wishing you all a beautiful summer,
