Leavitt Winter

Greetings

Greetings!

As we approach the end of 2011, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and business, and to wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season.

It has been a very exciting year here at Leavitt Tube Company. Our W-80 mill upgrade was completed, and the results have exceeded our expectations. The quality of our large HSS tube sizes being produced has never been better.

Our brand new W-50 mill installation is in full swing and it will be operational at the beginning of 2012. Expect to see the same improvement in quality and efficiency that has been displayed on our larger size range.

Also, scheduled for February 2012 is the installation and commissioning of our new mechanical W-8 mill. Once that is complete, every size that we produce will be able to roll on new, high-quality equipment. Add this together with continued investments in new computers, tooling, testing equipment, training, etc...and you can see why we are looking forward to an even more exciting 2012. We love to show off our new equipment, so please set some time aside next year to visit Leavitt Tube Company and take a look around for yourself.

Again, thank you for your support, and have a terrific Holiday Season. We look forward to continuing to exceed your expectations in 2012.

Most people remember the summer of 1969 for the historic Apollo 11 Moon Landing and that great concert in the field, Woodstock. The Tube People remember that year for another reason - it's when our employee spotlight for December, Joe Fattori stepped through the front door and started his long career here at Leavitt Tube. It truly was one small step for Joe, and one giant leap for Leavitt Tube.

Joe and the Tubeman started the same year - 1969. Having finished high school in June and recently turning 18, it was time for Joe to venture into the working world. Being from the Pullman neighborhood in the city of Chicago, Joe lived close to Leavitt Tube. Searching the classifieds one day, he saw that Leavitt was hiring for several jobs. So Joe put on his suit and walked over to Leavitt where he talked with Joe Palkner, the Human Resources representative at the time. Mr. Palkner was so impressed in Joe that he hired him on the spot as a jeep driver, hauling coil and tubing from one mill to another.

Joe has had many roles in his 42 years at Leavitt Tube - Tableman, Cut-off Man, Asst Foreman, Foreman, Plant Manager, Asst Director of Operations and Director of Operations. Joe is currently our Vice President of Human Resources and Operations where he works with office personnel, plant personnel and the operations of the plant - everything from a new ceiling in our front office to the electricity used to power our mills. Joe's favorite part of his job is working on the multiple projects that happen every year here at Leavitt Tube - our most recent, the installation of the 50-Mill, will be completed in January of 2012.

Joe currently resides in Bourbonnais, IL, with his wife Lois. He has three grown kids and six grand kids. Joe loves spending time with his family - especially going to all the activities that his grand kids are into. He also enjoys studying the Martial arts and practicing Tai Chi.

Joe is a big movie buff - his favorite movie is the John Wayne Classic "The Man who Shot Liberty Valence" but he appreciates more than just westerns - action, sci-fi, even romance - Joe's up for watching any genre of movie that you are. He is also an avid reader and tries to read at least one mystery novel per month. He's really hoping to get a Kindle for Christmas so he can carry multiple books around at the same time.

Here's a fun fact about Joe that you might not know - in 1990, Joe received a degree in Nursing! That's right - after taking night classes since the 70's at the Kankakee Community College, he transferred his credits to Mt. Olivet University in 1986 to complete his degree. Joe now volunteers when he can at his local hospital helping out the full-time nurses that are on staff.

If you want to talk tubing - or movies and books with Joe, send him an email at [email protected] or give him a call at 773-881-2614.

W-25Mill
W-25 Mill Retired
25 Mill 3
The Leavitt Tube Company said goodbye to a long-time family member this week - our W-25 Mill has been retired to free up space for our new 50-Mill, which is coming soon. Its last tube, 1.66-140 21', was produced on December 12th, 2011.

Our W-25 Mill, manufactured by Yoder, was installed in 1971. This was Leavitt's second structural tube mill that we installed at our headquarters in Chicago, IL. The 25 mill produced some of our most popular sizes, including 1.25 & 1.5 schedule 40 HI-Y 50 Pipe and 2x2-125 wall. Over the years we continued to upgrade the mill to keep up with all of the modern tube making practices in the industry.

The Tubeman would like to thank all the operators for producing high quality tubing these past 40 years on the W-25 Mill. Now it's time for the Tube People to start a new tradition of tube making excellence with our new W-50 Mill!

Frosty
Frosty the Tubeman

Frosty The Tube Man was made of 4 square 3/8 wall. With a corncob pipe and a button nose and two eyes made out of coal.

Frosty The Tube Man is made to A500 all day. He was made from iron but the buyers know he'll be recycled again someday.

There must have been some magic in that old heat lot we bought. For when they rolled him on the tubing mill he began to dance around.

Frosty The Tube Man was as strong as tube could be. And the workers say he could joke and play just the same as you and me.
