Leavitt Winter
Greetings!

HappyHolidaysHappy Holidays!

We at Leavitt Tube would like to wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season.

As we look ahead to the close of 2010 and the opportunities of 2011, we are excited about what we see. The multi-million dollar enhancements of our large HSS 80-Mill are scheduled to be completed in early January 2011. These projects will not only improve our cost structure but, most importantly, will improve our product consistency and quality.

We are also looking forward to our new W-50 mill that will replace two of our existing structural mills (the W-25 & W-40). This project has been ordered and is scheduled to be underway in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Again, please have a safe and wonderful holiday season!

LeftArticle1Retirement of Long Time Employee

On Friday December 17th, Skip Cowan, our dispatcher/foreman/all around good guy retired after 44 years of dedicated service with Leavitt Tube.

Skip has been nothing but a joy to work with over the years. If you ever had a question or needed a last minute truck to be shipped out, Skip was the guy that you'd call. He knew where everything was in the plant and could give you a pin-point location for each and every piece of material that we have. He knew all about steel tubing and was a great go-to guy for just about any assignment that needed to be completed.

In honor of his retirement, we are proud to feature Skip again as our Employee Spotlight for December. The article below first appeared in July's Edition of the Pipeline.

We wish nothing but the best for Skip and his family as he enjoys his retirement years, and the ability to play golf as often as he wants! Please feel free to email us any stories that you have about Skip at [email protected] and we will print them in future editions of the Pipeline.

Skip, you will be missed here at Leavitt. Thanks again for all your help, and all the people you taught about the world of steel tubing along the way!

EmployeeSpotlightEmployee Spotlight

Skip"Skip Here" is a familiar phrase to many folks. If you've ever called in to schedule a truckload pick up with us, you've heard this. The face behind the voice is none other than Skip Cowan, our employee spotlight for July.

Skip started at Leavitt Tube in 1966 kind of by chance. He had been working as a cost accountant (and before that a butter delivery specialist) and was ready to move on. Many of his friends were working at Leavitt Tube at the time, so he stopped by in his three-piece suit and asked to talk to Personnel. They told him they weren't hiring at the time but would keep him in mind if something came up. As he walked back to his car, a Leavitt manager from the office spotted him, and offered him a job on the spot...because he was wearing his three-piece suit! This was on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving...and he started that Friday as a janitor and has had an incredible ride ever since.

Skip has done just about every job that we offer here at Leavitt - he's hauled steel, loaded trucks, slit steel, ran the mills, was a foreman, a shipping clerk and now he's our dispatcher, finding trucks for our valued customers and talking to numerous truck lines every day. Skip has been doing this for the past 10 years, getting in at 4:30 am to make sure all of our truck loads are taken care of.

In his spare time, Skip enjoys playing golf and spending time with his three granddaughters and one grandson...and soon to be two grandsons! On Friday, July 2nd, he found out that will now be a great-grand father. Skip has been married to his wife Bonnie for 44 years and they reside in Lowell, IN. He has two sons.

Skip celebrated his 44th year at Leavitt Tube this November.

ArticleRight1Twas The Night Before Inventory

Twas the night before inventory, when all through the warehouse not one worker was shipping, not even a guy that we call Mouse.

Our helmets were hung on the hooks with care, in hopes that pizza would soon be here!

The sales team was ready with orders in hand, while visions of first quarter shipments that might soon land.

With safety in mind, I wore my cap, to avoid a head injury and a long hospital nap.

Then out on the mill, I heard a loud clatter, I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.

Away to the mill I saw a great sight, to my amazement the new 80 Mill had been running all night.
