Where did the time go?  When you are busy, time seems to zip by.  It seems that baseball season opened just yesterday and before you knew it, the NBA Championship came and went and so did the Stanley Cup finals. The New York market has been very hot and Avatar has been active with all kinds of recordings.  Sometimes, if you are lucky enough, the sports world intersects with the recording world as in the case of a session in Studio C with New York Yankee Nick Swisher shown here in the middle flanked by producer Loren Harriet and Tino Passante of Avatar. 

 

Tony AwardsThe Tony Awards    

 

The 65th Annual Tony Awards was just broadcast on CBS on June 12 from The Beacon Theater in New York City.  For almost two weeks leading up to the broadcast, Avatar's Studio A played host to the theater troupes featured in the awards show.  Music for the performances were recorded and mixed on a hectic and fast paced schedule.  It was business as usual for our staff.  Viewership was up 9% in the important adults 18-49 demographic over last year, and up 2% overall, according to Nielsen preliminary ratings. In total, the ceremony had 6.9 million viewers and the show went without a hitch.

It is natural for anyone involved with recording who has seen The King's Speech, winner of this year's Best Picture Oscar, to wonder what kind of mics were used in the film.  I turned to Malcolm Addey once again to get his insights on the type of mics used and their authenticity.

Honor Society Success for an Indie Band

Honor Society, an indie band which first came to Avatar to mix their demos subsequently got a recording deal and just came back to record a new EP in Studio B.  They are touring nationally now and is enjoying a growing fan base.  We received a nice note from Michael Bruno, one of the members of the band.
