PM for Social GoodSM

Greetings!

Career advancement looks different to everyone. To some it's about gaining recognition or earning profit. Others see career advancement as a means to broadening the impact of their work for their stakeholders. Career advancement could also mean taking on new responsibility or making the shift from working as a team member to a leader or manager.

Please keep reading to learn more about how one PMIEF scholarship is helping a nonprofit employee advance her career in a meaningful way.

Visit the "PMIEF Scholarships" section of the newsletter to learn more about available scholarships that can help you or someone you know use project management training to advance their own career.

Sincerely,

Using Project Management, Children International Employee Magnifies Her Impact

For Milaros (Miles) Aranas, one major way she gauges career success within her position at Children International, Philippines, is by evaluating how much support she can provide the children with whom she works on a daily basis.

Miles manages a team charged with providing programming for more than 15,000 Filipino children.  Her department plans, monitors, and evaluates projects related to health and education services for children, as well as provides housing and material assistance for their families.

Through the PMI Educational Foundation Project Management Fundamentals Online Certificate Program Scholarship, sponsored by Cheetah Learning, Inc., Miles completed 85 hours of coursework and became a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®.

"The Training was informative, relevant and exciting. There are so many things I can apply to my daily work," says Miles, especially as it relates to budgeting for the next fiscal year. "Seventy-five percent of our total agency budget goes to programs. Before the training, we never budgeted for manpower hours. Because of what I learned, I am able to properly budget and plan for our services to the children," she says.

The scholarship also helped Miles advance in her career, giving her formal project management credentials and training. "I am so thankful for the scholarship I received...without this assistance, I couldn't have attended the training or become a CAPM®. It's helping me help the kids," she says.
