Greetings!
Story telling is a great way to inspire others! At PMIEF, we're trying to inspire you to make a difference.
Every day, we hear how others are joining us in our efforts to leverage project management for social good by:
- bringing PM to their favorite nonprofit/non-governmental organization in India
- teaching PM to youth in the classroom in Australia
- creating student awards and competitions in Mexico
- mentoring teachers in the United States
- volunteering for career day at their local school in Canada
- building schools in South Africa
We have received many great examples of the positive impact of project management. However, we want to hear from you! How have you applied your project management skills towards helping others? We would love to read your story!
Please email us either your story or a friend's story that you think will inspire other PM for Social Good readers. Also, please take a moment to read our example story below. Thank you for your input. We appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Your friends at the PMI Educational Foundation

University Students in South Africa Learn Project Management through SIFE Competition

Reggie Brown of
PM4Africa |
|
HIV and AIDS is a horrific problem in South Africa and one reason students from the University of Western Cape and TSIBA (Tertiary School in Business Administration) chose to build an HIV/AIDS testing center as their SIFE project. SIFE (Students for International Free Enterprise) is an international competition for college and university students during which students complete projects that improve the quality of life for people in need. Reggie Brown, PMI Member and PMP is mentoring and teaching university students project management to help them complete successful SIFE projects, as well as teach them important life and professional skills. He uses PMIEF's Project Management Skills for Life as his teaching tool - first instructing the students in the basics of project management and then mentoring them as they complete their projects to help them apply these new skills. Not only does Reggie's work help students develop their personal and professional skills, the impact of his mentoring program also extends to the students' HIV/AIDS testing center - where project management techniques benefit the greater community. Reggie believes that "teaching project management as a life skill can help empower African citizens and help break the cycle of poverty." This belief inspired Reggie to start PM4Africa, an organization that teaches project management through community based projects in previously disadvantaged areas. Through this work, Reggie is teaching valuable skills to the leaders of tomorrow and helping to save lives today! To learn more click Here To learn more click Here
