PM For Social Good

Greetings!

Have you wondered how old a child should be before they can be introduced to project management?  It is most likely much younger than you think.

Through fun, innovative, age appropriate project-centered activities, project management can be taught to children as young as six years of age

One successful program that works with young children is the PMI Northern Italy Chapter's Project Our Theater.

Project Our Theater and many other educational resources are located on our website and available for download at no-cost for non-commercial use.  They are downloaded hundreds of times each year by teachers, parents, and PMI members for use in their local schools. To learn more, please visit the Learning Zone.

Helping youth learn project management will, ultimately, prepare them for the 21st century workforce and help them be successful in life.

Regards,

Your friends at the PMI Educational Foundation

NEW EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE!
PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR K-12 EDUCATORS - AN INTRODUCTION

Project Management for K-12 Educators
The key to building successful and sustainable project management programs in schools is to train our teachers. If we are going to make a sustainable impact in education, we need to educate the people who are with our children almost every day of the week.  Teachers benefit too; they learn a professional skill that will help them manage their classrooms and projects.

PMIEF funded a college of education to create this four hour workshop to provide teachers with an an interactive introduction to project management within the context of the teaching.  This resource can be used as a first step in introducting teachers to project management.  It can be downloaded at no-cost for non-commercial use.

Please tell us how it works out.  Email us at pmief@pmi.org.

The Upstate New York Chapter Teachers Project Management Through Theater

 Little Shop of Horrors

A production of "Little Shop of Horrors" at Duanesburg High School in New York, USA provided secondary school students project management experience. Connie Walsh-Toler, both a teacher and PMI Member, taught the basics of project management, including critical terms and processes through this theater project. Student teams worked together to create a timeline based on the tasks they needed to complete to meet a non-negotiable deadline, including planning and problem solving as a team.

This is a great example of using an existing school project to teach project management skills. For this pilot class, Connie created lesson plans and materials that were used in conjunction with PMIEF resources, which she will share with us to post on the PMIEF website.
