PM For Social Good

Greetings!

As you can see, the PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) newsletter has a new look and a new name.  We named it after the work we do every day - leveraging project management for social good.  We hope you like it!

You are receiving this new monthly newsletter because you expressed an interest in hearing more about PMIEF and how its philanthropic activities make a difference in the lives of others.

If you decide you no longer wish to receive PM for Social Good, you may unsubscribe at any time by clicking on SafeUnsubscribe at the bottom of this page.

We want to hear your thoughts so please feel free to email us at pmief@pmi.org with topics you would like to see highlighted.

Regards,

24 Teachers Participate in PM Training Course

Teacher Training Class

Teacher Training Course a New First!

In July, PMIEF sponsored it's first 3 day training course for 24 primary and secondary school teachers in Kennewick, Washington, USA!

This classroom style "teacher" only training course was a tremendous success and was conducted at no cost to attendees with the support of PMIEF, the Cadence Management Corporation, the Kennewick School District, and volunteers from the PMI Columbia River Basin Chapter and PNNL.  Teachers  learned how project management skills, techniques, and terminology may be used to help them better implement project based learning in their classroom.

According to one teacher, the training "validated the project based learning process we've been using ... and closed some gaps that we didn't even know we had until this week."

Most importantly, the training will help these teachers use projects to teach traditional subjects, thus helping their students build much needed 21st century skills such as teamwork, leadership, collaboration, and communication. THE END RESULT - their students will be better prepared to enter the workplace.

PMIEF works diligently to build the future workforce and improve society through its many programs and educational resources for youth, teachers, and nonprofit organizations.  This work would not be feasible without the latest expansion of PMIEF programs, made possible by a recently concluded fundraising campaign called Building Better Futures.

Volunteers Needed

PMIEF Chapter Liaison Volunteers help leverage project managment for social good - but more are needed.

To date, more than 40 PMI chapters have agreed to create PMIEF Chapter Liaison volunteer positions.  This newly created volunteer role will be the conduit of information from PMIEF to the chapter and back from the chapter to PMIEF.

PMIEF is frequently introducing new educational resources available for use in your local community for teachers, schools, students, nonprofits/NGOs, youth organizations, and for social good in general.  Unfortunately, you and your colleagues often do not hear about it.

A PMIEF Chapter Liaison will keep you and your fellow PMI Chapter Members in the loop on resources as they are made available.  The PMIEF Liaison will also share back to PMIEF how your chapter members are using these resources as well as what new resources you would like to see created or what you need to help leverage project management for social good in your community.  To find out more about the PMIEF Chapter Liaison Position click here
