Industry sector logosCTE Initiative accomplishments
The Santa Clara County Office of Education CTE department is wrapping up its second year of the CTE Initiative. Thank you to all the leaders in districts, Regional Occupational Programs, community colleges and business partners for your participation during the past two years. It has been very exciting to create and implement the three-to-five year CTE strategic plan. Together, our accomplishments are making a difference for students in Santa Clara County. We are pleased to share two model Programs of Study completed by Construction Trades teacher David Ravizza of Morgan Hill Unified School District, and Digital Tools teacher Birgit Bonham of Campbell Union High School District. Both teachers were instrumental in completing the two Tech Prep Demonstration Grants.

the SCCOE

CTE Teach is a program designed to support new CTE teachers or teachers who would like additional classroom support. This is a non-evaluative program created by a partnership between the Colton-Redlands-Yucaipa ROP and the California Department of Education. CTE Teach will provide a Peer Coach Leader (PCL) who will offer:

  • New teacher orientation
  • Training workshops
  • Walk-Throughs
  • Observations
  • Post-observation feedback conferences

The program will begin in the fall. For additional information or to enroll, contact alyssa_lynch@sccoe.org.

Steering Committee Meeting

Middle school administrators and board members wanted to serve on CTE Steering Committee

For the past two years, the CTE Steering Committee has been made up of administrators that work primarily at high school sites but there are many middle schools with CTE programs.  The committee invites middle school administrators and school board members to attend meetings to learn more about CTE programs. Districts have developed meaningful Programs of Study which link middle school, high school and community college career pathways. To join our CTE Steering Committee, review the 2011-2012 meeting dates and email alyssa_lynch@sccoe.org for details.

Find us on Facebook this summer
The CTE department hosts a CTE Facebook page. Resources are posted weekly for teachers and administrators. If a teacher needs a news article, they can jump on Facebook, find articles labeled by industry sector, and print or e-mail articles immediately. If an administrator wants to learn the latest information on CTE, they can visit and find reports easily too. Join us on Facebook now to keep up with CTE this summer.

UCCI InstituteImportant conference dates and CTE meetings

Each year there are several important CTE conference dates for teachers, administrators and counselors. For the past two years, the University of California has hosted curriculum professional development for both academic and CTE teachers. Learn more about the new University of California Curriculum Integration Institutes. The next institute will be held November 6-9, 2011. Details are still to be announced.

CTE StoreStatewide support for CTE NOW merchandise

Last fall, the SCCOE CTE department launched a CTE merchandise line. The goal was to promote unified use of the industry sector logos and to provide districts with the opportunity to purchase merchandise to support CTE teachers and programs. Sales climbed more than $24,900 in the first year. All profits fund the local CTE Conference. The newest addition to the product line is the industry sector lanyard. Order CTE lanyards now for back to school activities.
