Signs of a Recovery
Greetings!
After seeing employment drop and businesses strugggle in 2008 and 2009, businesses in Piqua are starting to see signs of a recovery in 2010. While it is certainly not business as usual, manufacturing continues to be a bright spot in the national and local economy. In fact, in a recent survey, the Institute for Supply Management reported the 10th consecutive expansion in its JP Morgan Global Manufacturing PMI, a survey of global manufacturing activity. This same optimism was shared by many of the German manufacturers we met with during our recent Business Investment Mission. Locally, consumer products manufacturer Evenflo announced plans to reinvest in their Piqua facility and hire up to 50 new associates over the next 36 months. Additionally, Trupointe, a newly-formed cooperative, chose Piqua for its new corporate headquarters. The project promises 10-12 new jobs to the community over the next 12-18 months. Thank you for taking time to learn more about the good news Piqua has to share. If you have questions or ideas for future articles, please contact Bill Murphy. |

Trupointe to be Headquartered in Piqua
Trupointe announced in early May their decision to locate the company's headquarter operations in Piqua, Ohio.
Trupointe began conducting a search for office space in the Piqua area after members approved the consolidation of Advanced Agri-Solutions Co-op, Inc. and Southwest Landmark, Inc. earlier this year. The company will bring 10-12 members of its senior executive team to the headquarters facility initially. The building also provides additional space for future employment growth at the site. Piqua Partners on Recruitment Mission to Germany
Grow Piqua Now, the Troy Development Council (TDC), and the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) returned from their Business Investment Mission to Germany in late May.
The delegation met with several German companies looking at growth opportunities in the U.S. Additionally, participants met with two companies that have recently made investments in the Dayton Region about their current operations.
Piqua is in the 4th year of its partnership with the DDC and the TDC on German business recruitment. German companies are an important part of the regional economy. The Dayton Region is home to several notable German companies, including Rittal Corporation, BASF, and Behr Dayton Thermal Products. And, according to the Ohio Department of Development, Germany is second only to Japan in international investment in Ohio as measured by the number of employees. |
| American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Windpower 2010 Conference & Exhibition Highlights Opportunities in Wind Energy
The conference boasted 20,000 attendees including a broad range of industry leaders and nearly 1,400 companies exhibiting the latest in wind power technology over an area the size of six football fields. These numbers establish WINDPOWER as the largest energy trade show in America and the world's largest wind energy conference.
It was the first year Grow Piqua Now attended the conference but it provided valuable information on opportuntities for the region's manufacturers in wind energy. Grow Piqua Now was also able to share details on the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School's Alternative Energy and Green Systems Program with many of the conference exhibitors.
