Welcome to Grow Piqua Now

Greetings!

Welcome to the first edition of Grow Piqua Now. Our quarterly newsletter will keep you informed of the latest development news and trends impacting our community.
The newsletter will also help share the many successes our community is celebrating even during these difficult economic times.

Companies like Hartzell Fan and Hartzell Propeller are demonstrating how our industries have been able to take advantage of new products and new technologies to build their existing business.

Working with our partners at the Ohio Business Development Coalition and the Dayton Development Coalition, we are also positioning our community to take advantage of new business development opportunities in emerging industries like advanced materials and energy.

We hope you enjoy our newsletter. If you have any questions or ideas for future articles, please contact Bill Murphy.

Grow Piqua Now and the Troy Development Council (TDC) are finalizing plans to visit existing and prospective business on two different continents later this Spring.

In early April, the two communities will call on existing companies in Japan. With 15 establishments in Miami County, Japanese companies are an important part of Miami County's and Ohio's economic activity.

The following month Grow Piqua Now and the TDC will partner with the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC) to visit companies in Germany that have expressed an interest in investing in the U.S. and the region. This will be Grow Piqua Now's second trip to Germany in partnership with the TDC and DDC.

Look for updates from these business investment missions in the Summer 2010 Grow Piqua Now newsletter.
Hartzell PropellerHartzell Propeller Changes
with the Times

Another long-time Piqua business Hartzell Propeller has learned to adapt to changing technologies. A long-time leader in the aviation industry, the company continues to find innovative new ways to build its business.

Hartzell Propeller's history in aviation actually begins more than 30 years before the Wright brothers' first flight at Kittyhawk. And, it has been part of some of the most significant accomplishments in American aviation history.

Today, the company uses composite materials to produce lighter, more durable propellers for the aviation industry. Hartzell propellers are utilized on virtually all of today's common propeller airplane engines. These include Lycoming and Continental as well as Pratt & Whitney, Allied Signal, Allison, and many others. It's propellers are even used on the Goodyear Blimp.
