The Vibe on the Outside...is Fresh

From 1873 to today fresh produce can be found under the farmers shed from local growers.  The Fowler family (Sunny Side Farm) like the Bowie and Sellner families have been selling there own produce at the Market for 100 years. Today the Fowler family tradition is carried on by Martha and her son David and his wife.  David Fowler told me that before they were at  Eastern Market back a 100 years ago the Fowler family sold at the old Center Market where The Smithsonian Castle now stands.

For a time the Sellner family grew both produce and flowers.  Carrying on the
Tradition at Eastern Market for the family is Ray Sellner.  His stand is known for its
selection of fresh cut Sun Flowers and wild flowers.

Hand loomed or woven rugs have been sold at the market for as long as I can remember.
Back in the early 1990's when I first started at the Market there was a family that always had a big display on Saturday's inside Market 5 Gallery now the north Hall of Eastern Market.

Christian Rathbone is a "new world" importer/designer of Turkish rugs made in the old way with Mr. Rathbone's contemporary design sense.  The weave types are either pile-Gordes- or flat-Konya- in Turkish.  The wool for the rugs comes from sheep especially breed for this purpose for generations.  The wool is died using vegetale dyes such as walnut, egg planet  and chamomile. Christian imports these rugs from Istanbul, Turkey. Christian Rathbone has exhibited his rugs at Eastern Market since 2002.

Now of course after buying all the ingredients for this salad at Eastern Market and a
hard day of shopping.  One needs energy.  Have ya'll seen the new "EATS" in the yard on Sunday.  I mean they got some stuff over there, wow... The French are coming to Eastern Market to buy bread.   Need I say more. I do believe that fruit in bread is a vegatable.  And that is somebodies country "a danish" is full of protein, minerals and the good 'fats'.  For more info as always check out http://www.easternmarket.net .
