Nancy CollectionBetty's Story: Betty happily survived breast cancer, but sadly passed away six year later of an unrelated primary cancer. Betty received news of her diagnosis in March of 1999. Once she heard the news, everything happened so quickly. She had a full mastectomy, and was in and out of the hospital in one day. She never complained to friends and family about her altered body, as she realized she might be living on borrowed time and was determined to make the most of her potentially too short life.

In November of 1999, the same year she had successfully beat breast cancer, she underwent a seven hour operation to remove another cancer. She had parts of her liver, bile duct, pancreas, duodenum, and stomach removed in order to extract the cancerous tumor. Throughout Betty's lifetime, she had bravely faced challenges, always remaining positive, convincing friends and family that everything would work out in the end. Her battles with cancer were no exception.

Betty went back to living life to its fullest after her surgery, becoming involved as a volunteer with the Toronto Women’s Canadian Club, first as Program Convener and then as President. In January of 2006, Betty developed swelling and pain in her lower legs. It worsened over time, so she went to the doctor. On March 6th, she was told the cancer was back in her pancreas, and she had weeks, not months to live...
