| Her Story: Nancy was 27 years old when her Mom passed away from Breast Cancer. She never imagined or even thought of the internal battle that her mom faced each and every day. At 28, Nancy was advised that she should have a mammogram every eighteen months to two years. So here, her story begins. | |
| In June of 2009, four days before an appointment, Nancy conducted a self exam. She could not believe what she was feeling. She felt sick to her stomach. Long story short, after various appointments, she got the call from her doctor. She could hear the sorrow in his voice when he said, "I'm sorry Nancy you have breast cancer." She heard nothing more after that. | |
Because of her strong family history of breast cancer, Nancy decided to have the BRACA-1 test but not without experiencing a roller coaster of emotions. Nancy was very thankful that her sisters, brothers and her kids all showed negative results but she couldn't help letting that old nagging question, "why me" eat away at her. She kept telling herself, "I was healthy. I was ALWAYS all about exercising. I was always conscious about the way I looked and made sure that I stayed in shape. How could this be happening?" |
