Poor Showing!
Did you know that among all the states in the country, Florida is now ranked 49th in per capita funding for the arts? That's embarrassing! The state has cut funding from $34.4 million just a few years ago to only $950,000 this year. That is only an investment of 5¢ per Floridian. Certainly budget cuts must be made, but why do the arts always suffer the deepest cuts? This election process provides opportunities for you to ask candidates how they feel about arts funding. Let's elect leaders who understand the importance of the arts. Also -- as our elected officials head back to Tallahassee, we will send out "legislative alerts" asking you to help by sending emails to restore arts funding. The arts matter - and we'll need your help to convey this message!
