Half of the internally displaced people in the world can be found in Africa.

IDP Map 2009

The total IDP population on the continent is estimated to be approximately 12 million. There are an additional 3 million refugees in Africa.

The largest numbers of IDP are found in the following countries:

4.9 million  Sudan
2.0 million  D.R. Congo
1.3 million  Somalia

Other countries with IDP populations of over 100,000 include Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
