Join Dan Gardoqui and Alexis Burnette for
the 11th Annual Algonquin Winter Tracking Expedition
February in Algonquin Park is magical.
A raven calls from the next valley.
The winter sun warms your cold nose as you
snowshoe in the wild backcountry bush of Ontario.
The fresh trail of a pack of wolves marks the powdery snow.
A pack of wolves follow a lone deer trail through dark green fir groves, then a sunny stand of beech and maples, then onto a frozen lake under a brilliant blue sky.
The trails split over the next hill.
We wonder what's to come...
It's February in Algonquin Park, and it's magical.
Join White Pine Programs on it's 11th Annual Winter Tracking Expedition to beautiful Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada.
Over the past decade, White Pine Programs has developed a relationship with the University of Toronto's Wildlife Research Station, located in the heart of Algonquin Park. As a result, we're able to offer this unique educational expedition that focuses on wildlife tracking, winter ecology, and nature awareness.
The goals of the expedition are to immerse participants in a tracking culture. Each day, we scout for track & sign, make a plan, then track & trail wildlife all day in small groups. At the end of the day, we unwind, eat hearty meals, and share the story of the day, all the while making hypotheses as to the movements and interactions of the animals we track and trail.
Over the past years, we've mostly tracked & trailed: Eastern Wolf, American Marten, Fisher, River Otter, Red Fox, Snowshoe Hare, Moose, White-Tailed Deer, Long and Short-Tailed Weasels, Mink, Ruffed Grouse, and more.
We only take 10 participants on this journey. Such small groups facilitate quality tracking time in the field and around the dinner table at night. The Staff is led by Dan Gardoqui and Alexis Burnett
Here's what some past participants have had to say...
"This was a wonderful week. Small groups, excellent leadership, and exciting animal tracks wherever we looked. I could have stayed another week and still have wanted more!"

"Everyone was so supportive - the instructors and everyone in the group. It doesn't matter where you are on your journey...beginner or experienced... , you still feel comfortable. I think it's amazing that the expedition works that way."
