Union City Community Contributes to P4P
|
(From left to right: Rob Lykins, Scott Stahl, Jim Poeppelman, Bryan Conklin)
The Union City community on both sides of the state line has jointly backed Darke County as three different community entities have thrown their support behind development efforts. Union City, IN (UCI), Union City, OH (UCO), and the Union City Community Economic Development Committee (UCCEDC) have all jointly pledged to support Darke County's Partnering for Progress (P4P) initiative, the collaborative public/private development effort on the Ohio side that supports business and job growth.
"Regardless of that state-line, we are one community," said UCI Mayor Bryan Conklin. "Supporting Darke County's development efforts makes perfect sense for us. As they work to assist UCO, they will be aiding Indiana's efforts in the process."

Who else could it be? With Midmark's recent expansion announcements, their commitment to working with P4P on the county's workforce development initiative, and their usual everyday efforts to enhance the Darke County community, Midmark was an easy choice for The CIC Business of the Quarter Award. Other projects in development include a regional website, exploration into new mechanisms to fund regional growth, several promotional videos, and collaborative workforce development efforts. VPP Moves to New Location
|
Congrats to VPP in Versailles for becoming operational at their new location and for a successful ribbon-cutting event. The Monnin family took time to provide tours of their new facility, show-off the equipment that enables them to provide the quality work they are known for, and explain a bit about their industry and their approach to business. With ten employees and a growing customer base, look for VPP to continue to grow and prosper along with Versailles!

DCVB - Ohio's Best Hometowns |
August 30, 2012
From the Desk of Deanna York, Tourism Marketing Professional for the Darke County Visitors Bureau:
On Monday, August 27, the Darke County Visitors Bureau received a letter congratulating Greenville for being chosen as one of Ohio's Best Hometowns for 2013 by the editors of Ohio Magazine. Greenville will be featured in the cover story of the November 2012 issue of Ohio Magazine, along with follow up stories in at least three issues in 2013.
"We are thrilled to have worked closely with Tim Swensen, local writer, assistant dean at The University of Dayton School of Law, husband to Krista Schultz--a Greenville native, father of three great kids who've benefitted from what the community has to offer, and lover of Greenville on the nomination," stated Deanna York, Executive Director of the Darke County Visitors Bureau. "This award recognizes that Greenville is among the best of the best in Ohio."
"Ask my wife, Krista how often I turn to her while we're riding bikes, walking down the midway of the Fair, chatting with neighbors, attending a function at Memorial Hall, etc., etc., etc., and say, 'I love Greenville.' Do we have challenges? Yep. Still, it's a great place with great people; deserving of the recognition and more than capable of meeting those challenges," shared Swensen.
More information will be forthcoming from the Darke County Visitors Bureau over the next few weeks. In the meantime, like the bureau on Facebook, DarkeCountyOhio.
CONGRATULATIONS!

From the desk of Marty Hohenberger, Vice President of Business Development
Dayton Development Coalition

By all measures, we're hitting our targets
Gov. John Kasich and JobsOhio President Mark Kvamme have set a new standard for economic development. Ohio has all of the necessary components - tax incentives, workforce, technology and capabilities - to attract new, growing industries and create sustainable jobs. We are a model state, leading the nation in economic recovery.
The Dayton Development Coalition and JobsOhio West are a big part of that success. We continue to contribute to significant growth, attracting and retaining businesses in target industries such as BioHealth, Energy, Automotive, Polymers, Food Processing and Technology.
We continue to be excited about our progress. Attached is a pdf of Accelerate, our second update for stakeholders. We welcome your comments. Email me directly at [email protected].

Local Partners Collaborate for UAS Training and Development |
From Jeff Hoagland, Dayton Development Coalition CEO August 15, 2012:
Today we have more good news about how the Dayton Region is speaking with one voice and collaborating on our UAS initiative. Congratulations to Sinclair on their announcement that United Technologies will provide them with an unmanned aerial system to use in their college training program. As the DDC continues to lead the UAS initiative started in 2009, this is another huge win for the region! Congratulations also to Select Tech for being such a pivotal partner in building the test, pre-production and production models of the aircraft. This is great news for our partners and members of the Coalition. The momentum continues on a broad front in Aerospace and Defense!

JobsOhio 2nd Quarter Report |
From the desk of:
Mark D. Kvamme
Jobs Ohio President and Interim Chief Investment Officer
I invite you to review JobsOhio's Second Quarter report for 2012. In it, you'll find an overview of Ohio's economic climate, detailed information about JobsOhio's results, and highlights of selected projects.
With its state and regional partners, JobsOhio won 77 projects with commitments to retain or create 15,904 jobs totaling more than $712 million in annual payroll. These 77 projects represent a total capital investment of $863 million.
Results from the second quarter tell a great story: jobs are growing across the state and in every sector. This fact emphasizes that one of Ohio's greatest assets is its industry diversity, which means the economy does not rely on one or two sectors for success.

Made in the USA for Team USA |
From the Office of U.S. Senator Sharrod Brown:
Shouldn't Team USA be wearing uniforms Made in the USA?
By now you've heard this isn't the case. Instead, the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC)-made up of lawyers, bankers, and other executives-outsourced the uniforms Team America will be wearing in the opening ceremony for the 2012 games in London.
The U.S. Olympic Committee's use of Chinese-made apparel is particularly egregious due to the ongoing and unfair competition that China poses to American manufacturers.
