Partnering for Progress- Highlights of Development Efforts from Across the County |
|
|
Greenville Once Again a Leading Micropolitan Nationally
The Greenville Micropolitan area, which includes all of Darke County, has been recognized again as one of the top areas in the country for development of business projects. Site Selection Magazine, the premier national economic development publication, placed Greenville 21st out of 576 Micropolitan areas in the country for 2011. Greenville was unranked in 2009 and was 41st in 2010. The rankings are based on number of company projects that met specific criteria for capital investment and job creation. The local effort helped Ohio nab top honors nationally from the publication.
"The rapid rise is a testament to how well our local companies weathered the recession and how well Partnering for Progress has performed assisting company's projects," commented Darke County Economic Development Director Marc Saluk. "There is tremendous public-private participation occurring in Darke County."

CNO... a different kind of start-up
There's a "new kid in town," offering a new kind of opportunity to the community, local businesses and Darke County young people.
The "kid" is County News Online, just a year old in January. It's unique in that it is owned and operated by a not-for-profit, the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund, that provides a community service and helps local students with their college expenses. It has also blossomed into a new local business.
CNO offers news, sports, opinion and other community information. It includes a sampling of what's happening in Ohio and across the country, as well as some perspectives about those events.

Participate in UD's Six Sigma Internship Program
From UD's Center for Competitive Change:
Greetings to all supporters of the Center for Competitive Change:
Many of you have been participating in the Six Sigma Green Belt Student Internship Program for several years realizing impressive results from our student sigma projects. As a true testimony to the program and caliber of students, many have also extended job offers to their intern or provided top references that led to the student finding a place of employment. I am looking forward to your renewed participation for 2012.
Welcome to those new organizations considering joining in this great student learning experience. I hope you take a few minutes to review and consider participation as the results have been IMPRESSIVE!
The following is some brief information about the program.
The brief overview. We have 30 advanced junior and senior engineering and business students enrolled this semester in the Six Sigma Green Belt class. Their backgrounds are split between business ops (Finance, Supply Chain) and engineers (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil & Industrial Technology). The class began January 17th and ends May 4th. Through our resilience in maintaining industry excellence to the Six Sigma requirements, this is only one part of the student's curriculum toward obtaining a green belt certification. Step 1 is the class and successfully passing the comprehensive final exam. Step 2 is winning an internship to develop and execute a green belt level project. This is where I need your help! Please consider your organization's participation in our internship program.
