Manchester Township School District administration announced at their January 19, 2011 Board of Education meeting that the district has saved more than $577,500 in the first 17 months of its energy conservation and management program. The successful cost-saving program is implemented through a partnership with Energy Education, a leading behavioral and people-focused energy conservation company whose Transformational Energy Management™ process trains client personnel to implement behavioral and organizational change that substantially reduces energy consumption without the purchase of new equipment.

"The energy conservation program has impacted our community with savings of 2.8 million kWh in electricity, 19.3 thousand Therms of natural gas and 880 gallons of fuel oil," announced Jessica Brosnan, the district's Energy Education Specialist. "These savings are equal to 1,821 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions being prevented."

"I am gratified by the energy conservation success we have realized," said David Trethaway, Superintendent of Schools. "Our partnership with Energy Education has led to a dramatic change in how we view energy consumption. The dollars we've saved in just the first year is a significant amount - it's money we did not have to cut from our budget. And in addition to saving money, we are also making an ecological impact by reducing our carbon footprint." [read more]

Ken Palmer and Judith Nappi with MOBI deviceMTEF President Ken Palmer explained that the charitable foundation's mission is to enhance the educational experiences of Manchester students by finding creative ways to fund items that are beyond the district's regular budget. He said he was thrilled this year to present each of the five schools in the district with a set of three mobile computer tablets called MOBI's. Director of Curriculum, Judith Nappi, showed one of the units, which she said would facilitate collaborative learning at all grade levels and in all subject areas. "We can't thank you enough for this donation," she remarked.

Palmer also presented checks to seven teachers who received mini-grants from the MTEF in their Fall 2010 application cycle. [read more]
