Greetings!
Once again, our students and staff have shown they care by immediately coming up with ways to help the people of Haiti in the wake of the tragic earthquake there. Fundraising activities are underway at all of our schools.
Here in Manchester, we know we can always count on our community to lend their support. In December, it was for the very successful Kevin's Kids Drive. Also in December, Lowe's of Manchester was a good neighbor to MTES, taking on a project to restore the school's garden. These are just two examples of the many ways that parents, seniors, businesses, clubs, and other organizations support us throughout the year.
As you know, we missed three school days in December due to the big snowstorm. Although not officially approved, these days have tentatively been tacked onto the end of the school year, bringing our last day for students and graduation ceremonies to June 23. Updated Chalk Talk calendar pages are available on our website.
I hope you'll take some time to read below about some of the exciting things that are happening in our schools, and follow the links to the left to additional school news and upcoming events.
As always, thank you for your support of our school district.

Students & Staff Respond to Haiti Tragedy
Students and staff of the Manchester Twp. School District immediately sprung into action to help the Haitian earthquake victims, with fundraisers planned and already underway at every school.
At the High School, the Cultural Awareness Club is coordinating a collection during lunch and selling cookies to benefit the relief efforts.
At the Middle School, the Gifted and Talented students raised money through a bake sale on-the-go (nearly $400 in 3 days).
The Whiting School Impact Club has planned several projects around a 'caring' theme, with funds raised going to Hope for Haiti.
At Manchester Township Elementary School, the Jr. Impact Club is held a fundraiser called "Hats for Haiti." Students and staff were encouraged to donate a dollar and wear a hat for the day. Proceeds will be donated to "CARE."
The Ridgeway School Jr. Impact Club is holding fundraisers including 'Helping Hands for Haiti," where all families who donate will have a paper hand cutout displayed in the building.
At Regional Day School, the Kid's Cafe is donating proceeds to the Red Cross.

Alumnus Talks About Plasma Physics Project
Chris Conniff, a 2006 graduate of Manchester Township High School, came back to Manchester to speak to students about an undergraduate project he worked on with Princeton Plasma Physics Lab and NASA. Conniff and his project teammates, Michael Baker, Darrick Jones, and Aliya Merali participated in research on dusty plasma, which led to them being chosen to be among a select few undergraduates to perform their research in NASA's zero gravity plane. Lowe's Restores School Garden
Lowe's home improvement store in the Manchester Plaza has been a very good neighbor to Manchester Township Elementary School. As part of the Lowe's Heroes program they recently took on a project to restore the school's garden, which had fallen into disrepair. They not only sent volunteers to do the work, they also supplied materials including mulch, pavers, and a beautiful new trellis arbor. [see full article] |
