Hi again,
In recent Enews issues we've highlighed some of our wonderful volunteers (another one is below!) We are able to do more when we can count on volunteers for their insight and energy to spearhead events and we can't thank you all enough! We invite you to use whatever skills and talents you would like to share to help make Out Boulder even better. We currently have Claire working on our library and LGBT book drive to Uganda. Mauricio Y. preparing a workshop for you on August 28 on Gender and Sexual Orientation, and James helping out with our I.T. needs. Many others are in the background helping us out and providing support to us, and in turn, YOU. We also always welcome volunteers to help out with our events. So if you see an event you would like to be part of, let us know! One of our needs at the moment is to find someone to help us clean the pridehouse (sweep, mop, take out the trash) -- even for an hour a week. If you would like to volunteer in this role or other capacities depending on your skill set or interests, please fill out our volunteer application and you will be hearing from Brett, our volunteer coordinator soon!
Cheers, Jen Spolnik, Out Boulder

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:
Volunteer Brett Schager
|
|---|
Out Boulder's Volunteer Coordinator, Brett Schager, is happy to be part of the Out Boulder team. He was first introduced to Out Boulder when he participated in the LGBTQ youth film project and made an autobiographical, experimental short film. After several years, he decided to volunteer more for Out Boulder in the SpeakingOUT program and to help coordinate volunteers.
After working as the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator for Community Cycles, a non-profit bike shop, Brett found his calling in the non-profit world. He enjoys the ability to meet lots of new people, use his knowledge from the School of Education in college to train people, and being a part of an organization that makes a difference.
Out Boulder is psyched to have Brett on board, with his enthusiasm and willingness to take charge of our much-needed volunteer program!

SexAware: Gender and Sexual Orientation Workshop - August 28
|
|---|
Please join us for SexAware with Mauricio Yabar for a FREE, fun and explorative workshop about gender and sexual orientation on Tuesday, August 28, 7-8:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. This workshop will examine the complexities of gender and sexual orientation. We will look at how society perceives gender, particularly what expectations exist around gender roles. The workshop will also explore "nature vs. nurture" ideas, engaging participants in friendly debates. This will be an interactive educational experience in which participants will be encouraged to contribute by sharing their ideas, asking questions, and exploring their personal experiences in a safe, supportive, judgment-free space. Everyone is welcomed to attend!
This event is offered free of charge; however if you choose to donate any amount, your contribution will go to Out Boulder. Learn more about the workshop and Maurico's background!

Queer Meditation Group - Time Change
|
|---|
Our bi-weekly Meditation group will now meet at 11 a.m. on alternate Sundays. Your next chance to take part is this coming Sunday, 7/22 at the Pridehouse!
This is a meditation group for the LGBTQ community, from beginner meditator to advanced. There will be a brief period of zazen meditation instruction followed by 20 minutes of sitting, zazen meditation then 5-10 minute discussion followed by another 20 minutes of sitting, zazen meditation. After the formal part of the group, the leader Andy Roffman, invites everyone for tea/coffee at Ozo coffee shop on Pearl Street. Andy started this group for two reasons--1) to strengthen his own meditation practice and 2) to build community. More info. We graciously thank the Boulder Shambhala Center for the use of their meditation cushions.

LGBT Books for Uganda - Now through August 3
|
|---|

From now until August 3, bring your LGBT topic related books to the Pridehouse (2132 14th Street) and we will send them to Uganda to support their work for equality! Former Out Boulder board member Dave Ensign recently traveled to Uganda with BeadforLife, a Boulder-based organization that works to bring women out of poverty. During his trip he had many inspiring experiences, including the privilege of meeting the dedicated staff at Sexual Minorities Uganda Group (SMUG). SMUG has created a library where Ugandan people can access books about a wide range of LGBT subjects. But such books are difficult to come by in Uganda. We are aiming to fill 40 boxes full of books on LGBT subjects and send them to SMUG in August. If you have some gently used books that you can part with, here is your chance to put them toward a great cause! And as always, Out Boulder can provide you with a tax-deductible receipt for your donation. More info
