Summer of "THE PRIDEHOUSE"
|
|---|
Dear Friends,
It looks like summer 2012 will be the summer of Pride House beautification and optimization. Will you help us?
I am so happy to report to you that after last week's newsletter, we have received a generous sponsorship for our Parking Strip Gardens which will help produce food for our Trans-Potlucks as well as the BCAP food Pantry. Thank you, Ilene Blum, for your generosity and commitment to being of service to LGBTQ people in Boulder County. You are a point of light for many in our community and we are truly grateful to count you as our supporter.
There are more projects that could use you, for example our backyard, it's a lovely space yet it is so shady and muddy that we simply can't use it for events or youth bbq's or much else for that matter. We obtained a donation of Colorado Flagstone to turn the swampy yard into a beautiful, practical patio that could be used for many events and programs. It will cost approximately $3500 to install in cement to prevent it from becoming a tripping hazard over winter. Perhaps this is something you would like to make happen, all contributions to the patio will also receive a remembrance plaque to be included in the patio. When sending your check, simply add "Patio Donation" to your memo line to ensure it goes to the right fund.
Another project that could use one or a few more supporters is a renewed fence for our coming (hint Flagstone Patio. Many of our friends thatneed to access services at Out Boulder would benefit from having a bit more privacy, having a safe, secure fence and gate behind our office would do the trick, if you want to sponsor the fence, write "Fence Donation" on your check.
There is also landscaping for the front yard, exterior paint, furniture, and storage that is needed, so take a trip down to the pride hose and check it out, find out how you can be part of making it the "IN" place to be for LGBTQ folks in Boulder.
With much appreciation and lots of anticipation,
Mauricio

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Volunteer Extraordinaire Andy Roffman
|
|---|
Hi! I was raised in NYC--pretty much the gayest place on earth. From the time I came out @ 16-to the time I left the city 14 years ago I had a very close connection to the "gay community". When I moved to boulder, although I felt a sense of community with my peers at Naropa University, I did not feel a connection the the gay community. In fact, for 14 years I have complained that there was no gay community in Boulder. It was my biggest complaint about this city. One day, fed up with lack of lgbt community, I decided to change that. I decided to build my own community. But how? I decided to start two groups @ Out Boulder-- a gay men's book club and a LGBT meditation group. I also attend Jonathan's gay men's knitting group. From these three groups I have found the beginnings of a lgbt community I have craved. I also volunteer at Out Boulder as the program director's assistant. This too has given me a sense of a gay community.
