House Judiciary Committee to Hear Civil Union Testimony, Thursday, May 3, 1:30pm
|
|---|
Greetings!
As you may know by now, the civil unions hearing has finally been scheduled in the House. Testimony will be heard on Thursday at 1:30pm in the House Judiciary Committee. We don't have confirmation yet, but we expect it will take place in the Old Supreme chambers again.
One Colorado will be holding a pre-testimony rally at noon on the EASTside (NOTE: another event is happening on the West side so please be sure to join us on the EAST side).
Wear red, and bring family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, signs, and noisemakers. Following the rally, we'll head into the committee hearing, which will get started at 1:30 p.m.
In Solidarity,
Aicila Lewis

Kate Clinton ALL FRACKED UP! - May 4 |

Glitter-bombs presidential politics. Spelunks some LGBT schist. No topic is off limits and Kate will have you laughing like you haven't in ages and she'll get you thinking too.

Artwork By Sterling Opening Party at Pride House - Friday, May 4
|
|---|
Hannah Mae Sterling is featuring her art at the Pride House. Join us for an opening reception this Friday, May 4, 8pm-10pm. For a preview of her work, check out her online gallery.
Bio of Hannah Mae Sterling: I have been creating ceramic art for seven years. Without opportunities in my youth, I would never have known this passion. I am a potter as well as a sculptor. I have spent the past two years creating an art studio within my home.
I wanted to deviate from pottery and create sculptures of the human form. Two years ago I began this process. I produce body casts of the human form, and then make ceramic copies. I also use a liquid clay (known as slip) for making copies of arms and hands, which I will sometimes attach to the torso landscape. I generally use the female form as my inspiration, but I have also created the male torso. The details of the forms are nearly identical to those of the person that I molded. Production of each piece can take 15 hours or more. Read more!

Connect the House Judiciary Committee Today
|
|---|
Under the leadership of Pat Steadman, civil unions legislation, which will provide committed same-sex couples with critical legal protections to take care of their families, is making its way through the Colorado state legislature. The bill has passed the Senate with bipartisan support. Now it moves on to the House, and the toughest challenge is next --- getting past the House Judiciary Committee, where only ONE VOTE is needed to secure passage.
Get involved in the fight to win one vote. Click here to send an e-mail now to the Republican members on the committee. All across Colorado, committed same-sex couples are vulnerable because our state denies them the protections they need to be responsible for the ones they love. Protections like the ability to take family leave to care for a loved one, to inherit property, to visit a partner in the hospital, and to make medical and end-of-life decisions for a partner. Recent polls have shown overwhelming support for civil unions from Coloradans. But last year, the bill died in the House Judiciary Committee. We're facing our toughest hurdle yet as we try to win the vote of a Republican on the same committee that killed the bill last year. We need your help in these final days. Click here now.

Parking Strip Gardens beautify and feed the community. Will you sponsor a planter?
|
|---|
Caitie Miller, one of our CU International and National Voluntary Service Training (INVST) Program Interns, has created a new Out Boulder program that will help to make the parking strip outside the Pride House more visibly appealing, as well as productive.
The program will work with 8 seasonal volunteers providing opportunities to learn hands on sustainable food production
and help to create more community connections and alliances with the greater Boulder community.
Four 4'x4' planters will be installed on the parking strip in front of the Pride House and will be planted to grow fruits and vegetables that will serve to provide fresh, organic produce for Pride House Community Potlucks as well as contribute to the
Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) food pantry.
Each planter will cost approximately $100.00 to build, sponsorships start at $25.00, or you could sponsor the entire project for only $400.00 In appreciation for your sponsorship, we will include your name on a plaque to be placed on the planters visible to everyone that stops to enjoy the plants.
Please note on your check or donation "Parking Strip Garden"

Will you make the Pride House's technicolor dreams come true?
|
|---|
Last year, our little Pride House had a much deserved interior wall-lift, new plaster is up and has been primed for almost one year now! There is much talk about a fresh coat of paint for the interior and even one for the exterior in 2012, so keep your eyes open and your fingers crossed that by Pride Fest in September, the Pride House can be a community center you can be proud of in a fresh coat of color.
However, technicolor dreams are not the only kind of dreams our Pride House has... through the work of some of our amazing supporters, we were honored to receive a large (read HUGE!) donation of beautiful Colorado Flagstone. This Flagstone is waiting to turn our cute, but swampy back yard into a patio that we can use to make the Pride House better suited to meet the needs of our community for a safe, social gathering spot.
Though volunteers will definitely be needed to help with this project we aim to have the installation of this patio led by a professional as we wouldn't want it to last one season and then turn into a tripping hazard over winter. To remedy this, the flagstone should be set in concrete, we received and estimate of approximately $3500 to accomplish this and this is where you come in... Is it within your possibilities to send an extra gift in support of turning our back yard into a Flagstone Patio?
Ideally, we would like to gather enough sponsorship for the patio that perhaps a wood fence to provide more privacy could also be installed, and again these are all dreams, unless.... Send your donation for patio installation and or/fence with a note that states **Patio Fund!
**Donations of materials for the installation of the patio or the new fence are also welcomed, please contact Mauricio for specific details at mshoup@outboulder.org |
