... So this morning I decided how I want to live
What I want to give
What kind of song I want to sing
Now I'm no longer
Looking at my days like they're a cup
Calling them half empty or half full
When they've always been enough
They'll always be enough
To fill me up
If I stop thinking so much
And start drinking them up...
~Excerpt from "Enough" by Andrea Gibson
Ahhhh... the words of Andrea Gibson -- so inspiring, mesmerizing, meditative... The only way they could be better is for her to speak them live, in her distinct slam poetry groove. Well, here is your chance! Come, experience the beauty of poetry, in only the way Andrea could deliver it. And support Out Boulder in the process. This Saturday, April 28 @ 8pm, at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California St. in Denver, along with the band Nervous But Excited. $10-$15 sliding scale tickets, only sold at the door.
Cheers to the beauty of words,
Jen Spolnik (an uber Andrea Gibson fan)

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Self Evident Truths Project and Communikey
|
|---|
SELF EVIDENT TRUTHS is presented by the City of Boulder Human Relations Commission and Out Boulder. In 2010 iO Tillett Wright began a project called Self Evident Truths, photographing anyone that felt like they qualified to fall on some part of the LGBTQ spectrum, from bisexual, to transgender. Shooting in simple black and white, in natural light, with no makeup or styling, the photos are intended to humanize the diverse face of gays in America today. "Guess what, we look just like you, your mother, your brother, or the coworker sitting right next to you."
One of the core ideas behind Self Evident Truths, is that people don't fit into over-simplified boxes. EVERYONE falls somewhere on a nuanced spectrum of human sexuality. Struck by the powerful impact of the project, iO has set her sights on taking the project national. Her aim is to photograph anyone in the United States that is, or EVER has been, anything other than 100% straight. The ultimate goal is between 5,000 and 10,000 portraits. Self Evident Truths will be operating from Communikey Headquarters @ Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (1750 13th St., Boulder, CO 80302), April 25 - April 27, 11am - 8pm. Sign up at www.selfevidentproject.com! The Self Evident Truths Project is part of the COMMUNIKEY FESTIVAL, 5th Edition, April 25-29, in Boulder. |
Trans Gender and Gender Queer Support Groups - Wednesdays
|
|---|
Out Boulder is proud to host two Trans Gender and Gender Queer support groups on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm at the Pridehouse, 2132 14th Street. Our "Young Adult" group specifically is for the younger generation of Trans and Genderqueer people. Though not age restrictive, expect a majority of 20 and 30 somethings to attend this group. This group runs bi-weekly on opposite Wednesdays from the Open Transgender and Genderqueer Support Group (for any age individuals).
The groups offer support meetings and social fun for people who identify as transgender and/or identify anywhere within the gender variant spectrum/sphere/torus. Meetings emphasize respect for peoples' experience in all types of gender variant identities, including the mtf spectrum, ftm spectrum, genderqueer, third gender, two-spirit, genderfluid, intersesex,
and of course anyone questioning/deciphering their gender identity. The groups are welcoming to gender variant people of color and persons with disabilities. Please come if you want support in your experience, you want to hear from others about their experience, or maybe you just want to spend time in a group of people that is accepting of you as you are.
The meetings are facilitated by a peer, and every person attending will be given a chance to share so that no one person dominates the discussion. Everything shared in the meeting will be kept confidential, and it will not be assumed that the name/pronoun you use in the meeting is the same as the name/pronoun you use outside of the meeting. There is a non-gendered bathroom at Out Boulder, which you can use to change your clothes upon arrival if you would like. Also feel free to bring any clothing that you would like to get rid of that you are no longer using - it might be perfect for someone else who is in need of clothing. These meeting are FREE! Donations to Out Boulder for space maintenance are welcomed. For any questions, please email Mauricio. Here is the upcoming schedule:
April 25: Young Adults May 2: Open to all trans, gender queer, etc. May 9: Young Adult May 16: Open to all trans, gender queer, etc.
