So I'm finding out more about volunteer opportunities at OutBoulder, and there is plenty to do! Don't be overwhelmed, but take a look at our list of current needs and see if you fit in somewhere
Announcement:
Aicila and I will be hosting a volunteer training on Thursday May 3rd, 5:30-7:30p.m. This will be a chance for everyone to see my (cynically, ironically) smiling face and learn a little more about Out Boulder and volunteer opportunities.

PROGRAMS DIRECTOR ASSISTANT
Mauricio needs your help! The Programs Director Assistant will help the Programs Director with all aspects of his job, but particularly helping with communications, coordinating volunteers for particular programs, and helping meet deadlines. This role requires excellent organizational skills and a self-starter who can assist without a lot of oversight.

SPEAKING OUT INTERN
We need someone to help run the Speaking OUT program. This would be a great opportunity for a student or another person looking for an internship. It would consist of assisting with recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers in this program and helping with other program development activities. FACEBOOK UPDATER
I was shocked to find out that our Executive Director makes all the facebook events for OutBoulder. This should not be happening. Some college student with no life should be updating these. If this is you, please help out. We will send you the events to put up and you just need to make a facebook event and invite some people. This is an easy way to help out and you can do it from home on your own schedule. Let me know if you're interested: volunteer@outbolder.org
HELP WITH CLEANING/MAINTENANCE
The Pridehouse has a regular volunteer, Carol, who helps every Wednesday with things like cleaning, vacuuming, yardwork, doing dishes, etc. It would be great to have more volunteers to help with this kind of thing to help keep the pridehouse running. No skills required, but I'm sure we'd be happy to have carpenters/electricians/landscapers /etc. to fix our leaky faucets and un-squeak our doors and make sure our outlets aren't like the ones from A Christmas Story. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you in touch with Carol.

FLYERING
We occasionally need flyering help, getting our promotional materials out around town. This is super easy if you just want to travel around and hang posters. It's also great if you love harrassing people on the Pearl Street Mall to come to our events or donate to our non-profit. Email me to see our current needs:

STORY-SCRIBE NEEDED
We are looking for a volunteer for the Boulder's LGBT Community Portrait: the story-sharing project. For this project we are collecting a diverse range of experiences to create an inclusive story of the LGBT community of Boulder. We are compiling these stories in a book and an exhibition along with a photograph of each participant.
At this time we are looking for a volunteer to transcribe these stories from their recordings to a word document that we can use for the printed version of this project. We have a free transcribing application (which slows the recording) and the recordings, all that you would need is to either come into the Pride House to use a computer or use your home computer.
Volunteers for this will be needed now until the end of June. A volunteer could choose to transcribe one story or many. The interviews are about an hour long, which roughly translates to 3-4 hours of transcribing for each. Volunteering for this means you get to hear some amazing stories (to expand your world) and improve your typing speed!

CREATIVE STORY ORGANIZER (DESIGNER)
We are looking for a volunteer for the Boulder's LGBT Community Portrait: the story-sharing project. We are looking for someone with access and experience with Adobe Indesign or another design software with book-making application to organize the book for this project. This will be organizing the chosen photos and the selected excerpts from the interviews in a cohesive yet fun book layout.
The volunteer will be needed starting June 1st and the book will need to be complete by July 15th. Together with Shannon Cleary and Mauricio Shoup, we will come up with the layout and design. This can be completed in the Pride House, or on your private computer (if you have access to a book designing program).

WEB HELP
We always need help with the website. Here are a couple concrete jobs we could use, but I'm sure there are a couple more.
1. We need someone to delete the spam comments we get on our website in weird places. It only involves logging in and deleting these periodically.
2. We would love someone to take form submissions for events, reformat them in HTML, and post them to our events calendar. This would be super easy for someone who knows HTML.

APRIL 27th - TABLERS NEEDED
2 Volunteers needed to table at this concert. Volunteers will need to pick up items that will include literature, newsletter sign-up, and our pop-up sign for Out Boulder. For volunteering you will receive free admission to the event.
