The Intern Experience at Out Boulder, by Caitie Miller

I am one of Out Boulder's newer interns and I wanted to take the time to introduce myself and the projects I have been working on with the Out Boulder community. I am currently a student at CU Boulder studying Sociology and pursuing a certificate in the INVST Community Leadership Program.

I began my internship at Out Boulder in October, collaborating with Mauricio to recreate the Speaking Out program. As many of you might know, SpeIntern Caitie Milleraking Out is an all-volunteer LGBT and Allied speakers bureau conducting approximately 60 speaking engagements every year in Boulder's middle school, high school and college classrooms. I have been busy researching other speaker's bureau programs around the country, learning what we can do to ensure that our program has the most meaningful impact on our audiences. We have also redesigned our strategic plan and promotional materials, working with the generous help of Jen Crum who works at a local ad agency. I was also extremely excited to be able to attend an allyship training at Manhattan Middle School, where we met with the school's progressive club, 'Allies' to discuss all the different ways oppressions can intersect and how to become more effective advocates for each other. It was a huge success!

This semester, I will be working on creating collaborations with other organizations in the Boulder community, and refining the Speaking Out program even further. Join us at the next Speaking Out Training on Feb. 4, 10 am - 3pm.  RVSP for the training at mshoup@outboulder.org.

(Don't worry if you want to be part of Speaking Out and can't make this training more training dates are on the way,)
