COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: One Colorado: A Conversation on LGBT Health
|
|---|
Founded in 2010, One Colorado is a statewide advocacy organization dedicated to securing and protecting equality and opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Coloradans and their families. One Colorado works toward that goal by conducting research to understand public opinions; mobilizing a community of LGBT people and straight allies; lobbying the General Assembly, executive branch, and local governments; and developing campaigns to build public support for issues like safe schools, relationship recognition, and LGBT health. Throughout the past year, One Colorado successfully advocated for a bill to protect LGBT students from bullying, built a coalition of 1 million Coloradans in support of civil unions, and conducted a comprehensive study to document the health disparities facing LGBT Coloradans.
Following the completion of the comprehensive health study, One Colorado is hosting a Conversation on LGBT Health with Marguerite Salazar, Regional Director of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. At this event, we'll discuss the result of the, including where in the state LGBT people feel safe coming out to their doctor, what barriers LGBT people (especially transgender Coloradans) face when trying to access care, and how LGBT people are treated when they do see a provider. We'll also talk together about steps we can all take to begin to address the health disparities facing LGBT Coloradans. Join us for this important conversation on January 19 at Denver Health!
