A Special request for 20-40 Year-Old Women -- What Events Do YOU Want?
Cami Dodson
Hi everyone, I hope you enjoyed the holidays!

I'm Cami Dodson and after volunteering for years at our Pridefest, I recently joined the Board of Directors for  Out Boulder. I've been volunteering at our Pridefest events for years and decided I'd like to help with the organizational stuff too.

A bit about me - I'm a 30 year-old, nerdy lesbian who likes to hike, draw and develop apps and games for kids. I graduated from CU with an engineering degree in Computer Science and a certificate in Technology Arts Media. I also ran a few student clubs at CU and  organized a Women's Group when I worked at LEGO.

Since joining the board, I've mostly been absorbing all the activities Out Boulder is involved in - and it's a lot! From middle school anti-bullying programs, a conference on Celebrating Queer Identities, to monthly gatherings with local sponsors. I have joined the Finance Committee, stepped up my duties for Pridefest 2012 as lead volunteer, and I intend to help with the LGBT youth empowerment art program, BOLD.

In addition to all we do, personally, I'd really like to help develop and strengthen the community for 20-40 year-old lesbian and bisexual women around Boulder. I've heard many requests for this and have often wondered where do we all go after the wonderful, fun gatherings for Andrea Gibson, the Red Party or Brandi Carlile?  I love Queer Tango & Dancing Divas, yet the under 40's there are rare attendees. Even at Tracks, in Denver, we only have one night a month!

I know we're out there and I know many of us want to make more friends. I've thought about coordinating an art night or game night,  but need your suggestions as to where to host it and to find out if  this is something you ladies would like? Do we need our own email list or Facebook event group? Send me your ideas by clicking here, and if you see me around, come say hi!

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT:  Intercambio

IntercambioAs part of Out Boulder's mission to cultivate our community, we are happy to introduce you to other organizations creating positive change in Boulder County and beyond.

This week we introduce Intercambio. Founded in 2001, Intercambio is an independent nonprofit organization that has served over 10,000 people throughout Boulder County.  Intercambio is one of many partners collaborating with Out Boulder to promote equality, respect and well being for the people of Boulder County.

Intercambio's volunteers and staff believe that our community can be stronger when everyone can communicate in English, understands local laws, health care and financial systems, and is able to participate and contribute in a positive way.  Intercambio offers a wide range of classes to adult immigrants in Boulder County, as well as celebrating intercultural exchanges through monthly community events, such as potlucks, camping trips, sports days and the annual La Fiesta: World Party.

If you are interested in learning more about Intercambio, please visit their website.

With our moderator, Daniel Escalante, one of the best regarded in the state of Colorado and our panelists, Ray Rodriguez and his mother, Jennie Rodriguez, Out Boulder's Mauricio Shoup and two member of Boulder County's LGBTQ/Latino youth, this community forum promises to deliver an engaging conversation.

Gay & Bi Men's Literature Group: Geography of the Heart - Jan. 14th

Our Men's Book Club is up and running!

Our first meeting was a success, thanks to Andrew for holding space for us.  We chatted a bit about different books, picked our first two, and decided on our next meeting date.

Our first book selected is Geography of the Heart, by Fenton Johnson.  The book is available through Amazon from $4.00, including shipping.   Our next monthly meeting will be on  January 14th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Pride House.  We will discuss the book, and from there we'll  venture out to do some fun socializing.

To join the group, get more literate and make some new friends is easy, simply  get the  book, read it, and come to our next meeting.

We encourage you to also work on acquiring the second book that we will read so you have the entire month to read it before our February Meeting.   The book is titled Grief  by Andrew Holleran
