Thank you for your contribution on Colorado Gives Day!
|
|---|
The phrase "Thank You" seems to fall short in expressing the overwhelming gratitude we, at Out Boulder, feel for you, our community supporters. Out Boulder, in our first year as participants of Colorado Gives Day received a total of $2,540 donations, an impressive showing of support for the work that we do. Donations ranged from $10.00 to $500.00 and the range of people donating to support the cultivation of equality in Boulder County was just as varied.
In total, generous Coloradans donated $12 million through 52,000 donations on Colorado Gives Day to nonprofits in our state. This is a 150 percent increase over last year. This is something we, as Coloradans, can all be proud of.
Check out Giving First's social media at facebook.com/givingfirst.org and twitter.com/givingfirst to watch the conversation unfold. Photos and a video have been shared on GivingFirst.org of the wonderful activities on Colorado Gives Day. Thank you to our supporters in making Out Boulder's first Colorado Gives Day a success!
If you were not able to participate in Colorado Gives Day, Giving First will continue to process donations for Out Boulder year round, simply click here and make your tax deductible gift.
In appreciation,
Out Boulder

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Dave Ensign
|
|---|
Meet Dave Ensign, community activist, athlete, friend, volunteer, board member extraordinaire. Dave started with Out Boulder in 2005 after receiving the Big Hearts award for his community work. He was as detailed as he was passionate about making the Out Boulder office organized and functional. When I started in 2008, Dave was an unofficial employee. He spent at least 10-15 hours a week in the office, tracking receipts, updating Quickbooks, and orienting me to the ins and outs of how the organization kept itself afloat.
Dave works hard, but he also knows how to bring fun to what he does. Whether it's going to Margaret Cho with the rest of the board and staff or organizing board members to participate in the Pearl Street Children's Halloween parade, he keeps the creativity and celebration alive in what he does. His annual Garden Party, a benefit for Out Boulder, has become a greatly anticipated community activity. An active athlete, he competes in foot and bike races across the country.
Dave is an inspiration to all those who know him. As Board President, he led us to a stronger, more visible organization. We have been lucky and grateful to benefit from his talents and passion over the past 6 years. Whatever he does, we know he will continue to make Boulder County a better place for all of us.

Trans and Genderqueer Support Group
|
|---|
Regardless of where you are in your life or personal process, this group is open to you. A wide variety of topics will be discussed, support will be provided, and social activities will be planned for. Boulder Trans and Genderqueer Support offers support group meetings and social fun for people who identify as transgender and/or identify anywhere within the gender variant spectrum/sphere/torus. Our meetings emphasize respect for peoples' experience in all types of gender variant identities, including the mtf spectrum, ftm spectrum, genderqueer, third gender, two-spirit, genderfluid, intersesex, and of course anyone questioning/deciphering their gender identity. The groups are welcoming to gender variant people of color and persons with disabilities. Please come if you want support in your experience, you want to hear from others about their experience, or maybe you just want to spend time in a group of people that is accepting of you as you are.
The meetings are facilitated by a peer, and every person attending will be given a chance to share so that no one person dominates the discussion. Everything shared in the meeting will be kept confidential, and it will not be assumed that the name/pronoun you use in the meeting is the same as the name/pronoun you use outside of the meeting. There is a non-gendered bathroom at Out Boulder, which you can use to change your clothes upon arrival if you would like.
Also feel free to bring any clothing that you would like to get rid of because it does not fit your preferred gender - it might be perfect for someone else who is in need of clothing from that gender.
There is no cost to attend, but donations to Out Boulder for space maintenance are welcomed.
The group meets every other week, with the next meeting TONIGHT, December 14, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Pridehouse. More info. For any questions, please email Mauricio at mshoup@outboulder.org.

Gay & Bi Men's Literature Group: Geography of the Heart - Jan. 17
|
|---|
Our Men's Book Club is up and running!
Our first meeting was a success, thanks to Andrew for holding space for us. We chatted a bit about different books, picked our first two, and decided on our next meeting date.
Our first book selected is Geography of the Heart, by Fenton Johnson. The book is available through Amazon from $4.00, including shipping. Our next monthly meeting will be on January 7th from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Pride House. We will discuss the book, and from there we'll venture out to do some fun socializing.
To join the group, get more literate and make some new friends is easy, simply get the book, read it, and come to our next meeting.
We encourage you to also work on acquiring the second book that we will read so you have the entire month to read it before our February Meeting. The book is titled Grief by Andrew Holleran.
If you have any questions, please email mshoup@outboulder.org
