What the Out Boulder Staff is Thankful For |
|---|
As Thanksgiving approaches, the Out Boulder staff takes a moment to reflect on what they are most thankful for. These things are easy to forget among the hustle and bustle of life so it is a good time to sit back and contemplate the wonderful things in life that we may take for granted.
Aicila This holiday season, as I anticipate quiet time with family and friends, I am grateful for the many gifts in my life. I am grateful to be part of a team working to make Boulder County a better place for all of us. I am grateful for my family and friends and the support they provide for me to be here every day to do this work in partnership with the community. And I am inspired to believe that we can, working together, create something better for the future. Mauricio
First, I am thankful for Out Boulder and the Out Boulder Community, for giving me a platform to grow, and a base from where I can affect positive change in our community. Second, I am thankful for my Framily (friends/family) for their love, support and understanding, and third I am grateful for the amazing youth of Boulder County, they challenge me and nourish me to continue to work for a world where equality is not a cause but a reality. Jen I am incredibly thankful for my supportive family. No matter how far I am away from them they are always there for me in every way. I am lucky to be spending Thanksgiving with them this year in Ohio. I am also thankful for my partner Theresa (also part of my family)--she is everything I could have dreamed of and more. I am thankful for Colorado sunshine. Even on the cold days, the light and warmth here can not compare. It brings me instant happiness and ease for the backdrop of my life. Finally, I am thankful for my work here at Out Boulder where I feel that I can make meaningful contributions and am surrounded by one-of-a-kind colleagues and community members, each with their own special gifts to share. For those of you traveling for the holidays or spending time with family--it can be a stressful time. If you need extra support for this time of year, a great resource is the GLBT National Help Center at 888-843-4564. This is the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender national hotline that serves callers of all ages and offers peer-counseling, information, and local resources. Just remember, you are not alone! |

Bent Lens Cinema Presents "Mary Lou" at the Dairy Center - Sunday, November 27
|
|---|
Acclaimed Israeli director Eytan Fox (Yossi & Jagger, The Bubble, Walk on Water) brings to life a modern fable with a catchy musical message and a story based on the songs of Israeli pop legend Svika Pick. Miriam (Maya Dagan) is an adoring fan of Svika Pick (who appears as himself). She dreams of being a famous singer, leading her to mysteriously abandon her son Meir (Ido Rosenberg) on his tenth birthday. Both Meir and his best school friend Shuli-who happens to be a beautiful girl-have their eye on the same gorgeous guy. But despite worthy distractions, Meir never stops searching for his mother, eventually moving to Tel Aviv and becoming famous as a drag queen named Mary Lou. The songs never stop coming as Meir/Mary Lou discovers he needs to find himself even more than his mother.
Mary Lou was released in Israel as a four part television series and garnered the equivalent of the Israeli Emmy Award for best miniseries in 2010.
This film is co-sponsored by Keshet Colorado. Check it out at the The Boedecker Theater at The Dairy this Sunday at 6:30. Tickets are $9 at the door ($7 students/seniors), $10 online. More info: http://www.bentlens.org.
