P175Out Boulder and Bent Lens Cinema Present "Paragraph 175"

(part of Out Boulder's presentation of the traveling exhibit on Nazi persecution of homosexuals)

When: Monday, April 25 - 7pm

Where Boulder Public Library Auditorium -

FREE - 9th St. and Canyon Blvd entrance

The first documentary to expose the widespread torture, imprisonment and murder of lgbt citizens by Hitler's Nazi regime under German's sodomy statute, "Paragraph 175" details the hunt and persecution of queers during the Holocaust.

Narrated by Rupert Everett and directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the film chronicles the lives of several men who survived their arrest and confinement in Nazi concentration camps. Of the 100,000 mostly gay men arrested from 1933 - 1945, only about 4,000 survived. The story of queer persecution during the Holocaust had never been documented before this film.

The Boulder Gay and Lesbian Film Festival first screened "Paragraph 175" here in 2001.

Hi!  My name is Jessy and I'm working with Out Boulder to help organize events by and for LGBTQ and Allied People of Color in Boulder County. I thought I would send out a brief survey to hear directly from people what kinds of events they'd like to do. If you identify as LGBTQ and a Person of Color, thank you for taking 5 minutes to fill out the survey below.  If you'd rather just talk with me on the phone, my number is 720-434-4818.  Thank you!  Please click here if you identify as an LGBTQ or Allied Person of Color to take the survey...

Community Education on Bias-Motivated Crimes

There will be a presentation in April on Bias-Motivated (Hate) Crimes that includes:

  1. Hear from the DA's office a short summary of what constitutes a bias-motivated crime.
  2. Identify 3-5 potential "expert witnesses" who would be trained and able to provide testimony in bias-motivated crimes about the identity group that is targeted.
  3. Identify a network of people able to come together, possibly 3 times a year, to provide resources to the prosecuting team in potential bias-motivated crimes.
We would also like to discuss what types of work is being done that we may be able to do together to address the underlying cultural issues that promote bias-motivated crimes.

Boulder ADAPT and Out Boulder Discussion about the Institutionalization, Isolation and Social Marginalization of People with Disabilities and the LGBTQ Community

Tuesday, April 26 -- Boulder Creek Room, Boulder Public Library 5:30 to 6:30pm.  Free and open to the public.

ADAPTToday people with disabilities in the United States face forced institutionalization because of physical and mental disabilities. This social isolation and segregation is something we share with other marginalized Americans particularly those from the LGBTQ community.

During this time of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum presentation of "The Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals;" Boulder ADAPT encourages you to join our dialogue about the imposed institutionalization and isolation that still impacts our lives today. We will remember the T-4 forced euthanasia of people with disabilities by Nazi persecution and how our public policy still prefers the Disability Community "out of sight." ADAPT is a national grass-roots community that organizes disability rights activists to engage in nonviolent direct action, including civil disobedience, to assure the civil and human rights of people with disabilities to live in freedom.

Sound Circle - Take Me to the Moon

After last year's immersion in the sounds and images of the Grand Canyon, Sound Circle is turning to the world of musical theatre, mixing familiar standards with contemporary repertoire to create a lush and moonlit musical world. Original arrangements and compositions by Schmit-Lobis, passionate harmonies, inspired juxtapositions, and a mix of a cappella and accompanied music combine in a collection of love songs that is at its core a concert in love with life. This cabaret-style concert is unlike anything you've heard from Sound Circle before.
