NOAH'S WISH

Noah's Wish is a unique animal welfare organization dedicated exclusively to rescuing and sheltering animals in disasters, throughout the United States.

Our Mission:

The singular mission of Noah's Wish is to save animals during disasters with our rescue and recovery services and to mitigate the impact of disasters on animals through our educational outreach programs.

Noah's Wish came into existence in 2002, not to duplicate existing efforts to help animals during disasters, but to expand on what was already in place. Too often, efforts to help animals during life threatening situations have been gravely inadequate. We recognize that animals need and deserve an organized, consistent and professionally managed national disaster relief program. They will, otherwise, continue to pay for human indifference with their lives. How animals are managed during disasters is to implement well thought out, field tested policies and procedures that are practiced in all disasters. Relief efforts for people are managed this way and we feel they should be for animals too.

We are not involved in any other animal welfare issues. It's not that we aren't concerned about all the ways animals are abused or exploited, but there are a multitude of national and local animal welfare organizations who are tackling the issues that adversely affect animals.

Berndnaut Smilde

Meet the artist who can control the weather!

You might think it would be bad luck for a raincloud to follow you around, and avoid being in one's vicinity. But not for Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde, who actively seeks to create them. As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining and Smilde's have made him famous, quite literally taking the art world by storm.

He uses a smoke machine, combined with moisture and dramatic lighting to create an indoor cloud effect.

Smilde, who lived in Amsterdam, said he wanted to make the image of a typical Dutch rain cloud, inside of a space. 'I imagined walking into a classical museum hall with just empty walls,' he said. 'There was nothing to see except for a rain cloud hanging around in the room.

'I wanted to make a very clear image, an almost cliche and cartoon-like visualization of having bad luck. "Indeed there's nothing here and bullocks, it's starting to rain!"'

 But the few people who have seen the clouds in person would consider themselves very lucky. Each cloud only exists for a moment before dissipating. The photograph, Smilde says, is a 'document', the only proof of its existence if a viewer misses it.

International Space Station Hurricane Tracker
